Places to see in ( Strasbourg - France ) Musee historique de la Ville de Strasbourg
The Musée historique de la ville de Strasbourg is a museum in Strasbourg in the Bas-Rhin department of France. It is located in the Renaissance building of the former slaughterhouse (Grande boucherie) and is dedicated to the tumultuous history of the city from the early Middle Ages until the contemporary period.
The Historical Museum of the city of Strasbourg has reopened its doors to the public after 20 years of closure. Suffice to say that the Alsatians were eager to review the collections dedicated to the history of the Alsatian capital.
And, in fact, the result is rather convincing. The museum is still in the old Grandes Boucheries of Strasbourg (1587) as originally in 1920. But, the museum's museum has been redesigned in a chronological and thematic . Thus, the visit of the museum revolves around three aspects: the free city of the Holy Roman Empire (1262-1681),The royal and revolutionary city (1681-1800) and the development of a metropolis in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries (planned for 2009/2010) . Everything is meant to be particularly fun and educational. The visitor is invited to test multimedia installations.
The collections include objects related to local heritage. We find books printed by Jean Grüninger - a Strasbourg printer active just after the discoveries of Gutenberg, the cannons of the foundry Rohr and Edel , objects from the Klingental factory , a Phrygian cap from the Jacobins Club of Strasbourg or a painting representing Rouget de l'Isle - composer of the Marseillaise.
The focus is also on the models. We remember in particular the relief plan of Strasbourg around 1725-1727 . An entire room stages it under a large glass bell. Moreover, each visitor can, as he pleases, illuminate a neighborhood or monument of his choice to better visualize it.
The extension of Strasbourg in the 19th and 20th centuries also has a place in the museum. Let's say, that a third space dedicated to this period is planned for the extension of the museum by 2010. It should, among others, discover Strasbourg uniforms from 1800 to 1945 and the Petits Soldats de Strasbourg .

Botanical Gardens and Conservatory | Geneva | Switzerland

The Conservatory and Botanical Garden of the city of Geneva, a museum and an institution of the City of Geneva, was created in 1817.
The botanical garden includes a living collection of 14,000 species of 249 different families from around the world, and a historical herbarium of nearly 6 million botanical specimens. The library of over 220,000 volumes
Garden
The garden is home to over 16,000 different species of plants (rockery, medicinal, horticultural…), trees and shrubs blooming at different seasons to ensure the all-year round feast for the eyes. This large catalogue of greenery is spread out through different sectors such as the Greenhouses, Rockery, Arboretum and Winter Garden. If you would only have time for one of those, we strongly recommend the Winter Garden, built in 1913 and moved to its current location in 1935, it beholds a wide variety of tropical plants and fruits.
Interesting fact, each plant are given a registration number to track their evolution through the stages of planting, transplanting and introduction to a collection.
The garden also incorporates a zoo dedicated to conservation and the Botanicum (a family space) near the lake.
From 1 January 2015, the Conservatory and Botanical Gardens became 100% organic, the first public garden in Switzerland to formally meet the standards of Bio Suisse.
Zoological Museum of Strasbourg
The Zoological Museum in Strasbourg was opened in 1898 on the terrain of the Kaiser Wilhelm University. The building was completely designed by Professor Goette and the architect Otto Warth. They took care strictly to fellow scientific and technical standards of those times. The entrance hall is decorated by oil-on-plaster panels, which were painted by Georg Hacker in 1894-1896.
The museum shows examples of the biodiversity of the animals, presenting high quality stuffed animals in beautiful landscape reconstructions as well as impressive models of insects. Due to the fact that biodiversity has to be interpreted as result of evolution, also a phylogenetic tree of the animals can be found to visualize important steps in the animal's evolution. Note: This film does not necessarily always present a correct phylogenetic order of animal groups, but fellows more the architecture of this exhibition.
The museum additionally makes a point about the history of natural science by presenting the early scientist Jean Hermann (1738-1800) in his impressive work room.
Anatomical character transformations explain the important steps in the evolution of the vertebrates to become able to survive on shore. Visitors of the museum can marvel at an original specimen of Latimeria (coelacanth). The bizarre Long-wattled Umbrellabird (Cephalopterus penduliger) is visible at the end of the film.

Strasbourg (UK: , US: , French: [stʁazbuʁ, stʁasbuʁ]; Alsatian: Strossburi [ˈʃd̥ʁɔːsb̥uʁi] (listen); German: Straßburg [ˈʃtʁaːsbʊɐ̯k]) is the capital and largest city of the Grand Est region of France and is the official seat of the European Parliament. Located at the border with Germany in the historic region of Alsace, it is the capital of the Bas-Rhin department.
In 2016, the city proper had 279,284 inhabitants and both the Eurométropole de Strasbourg (Greater Strasbourg) and the Arrondissement of Strasbourg had 491,409 inhabitants. Strasbourg's metropolitan area had a population of 785,839 in 2015 (not counting the section across the border in Germany), making it the ninth largest metro area in France and home to 13% of the Grand Est region's inhabitants. The transnational Eurodistrict Strasbourg-Ortenau had a population of 915,000 inhabitants in 2014.Strasbourg is one of the de facto three main capitals of the European Union (alongside Brussels and Luxembourg), as it is the seat of several European institutions, such as the Council of Europe (with its European Court of Human Rights, its European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines most commonly known in French as Pharmacopée Européenne its European Audiovisual Observatory), the Eurocorps, as well as the European Parliament and the European Ombudsman of the European Union.
The city is also the seat of many non-European international institutions such as the Central Commission for Navigation on the Rhine and the International Institute of Human Rights. It is the second city in France in terms of international congress and symposia, after Paris.
Strasbourg's historic city centre, the Grande Île (Grand Island), was classified a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, the first time such an honour was placed on an entire city centre. Strasbourg is immersed in Franco-German culture and although violently disputed throughout history, has been a cultural bridge between France and Germany for centuries, especially through the University of Strasbourg, currently the second largest in France, and the coexistence of Catholic and Protestant culture. It is also home to the largest Islamic place of worship in France, the Strasbourg Grand Mosque.Economically, Strasbourg is an important centre of manufacturing and engineering, as well as a hub of road, rail, and river transportation. The port of Strasbourg is the second largest on the Rhine after Duisburg in Germany, and the fourth largest river port in France after Nantes, Rouen and Bordeaux.

Zurich Travel Guide - Unforgettable Switzerland Dreams
Zurich Travel Guide - Unforgettable Switzerland Dreams
Zurich (German: Zürich, Zürich German: Züri) is the largest city in Switzerland, with a population of some 390,000 in the city proper and 1.2 million in the agglomeration area. Zurich is on Lake Zurich, where the lake flows into the River Limmat , in the north of Switzerland. Zurich is the largest city of the Swiss Confederation (Switzerland) by land area and population. It is the financial center of Switzerland and houses the stock exchange and the headquarters of a large number of national and international companies, and also home of FIFA's headquarters.
You also find Google's world-wide second largest development center in Zurich. Because Zurich is the central node of the Swiss-wide train network and also runs the biggest and busiest international airport in the country, it generally is the first place where tourists arrive. Because of the city's close distance to tourist resorts in the Swiss Alps and its mountainous scenery, it is often referred to as the portal to the Alps.
Contrary to a generally wrongly made assumption, Zurich is not the capital of Switzerland -- the Swiss are very much a confederation of Cantons and avoid naming any one city as capital in order to prevent that Canton from seeming more important than the others. Still, the federal government is headquartered in Berne and not Zurich. Zurich has long been known for being clean and efficient. Due to this, it has been continuously ranked as the city with the highest living standard world-wide for many years. However, only for the last fifteen years it has truly become a fascinating and worthwhile travel destination. This is mostly thanks to the liberalization of the party (more than 80 clubs are open at weekends) and gastronomy sectors (over 500 bars and more than 1500 restaurants). An increasingly cosmopolitan population has helped (every third inhabitant is a foreigner), as well, though more button-down Geneva remains Switzerland's most culturally heterogeneous city. Zurich always used to be well known for a demanding audience in opera/ballet, classical concerts, and theater. You find more than 50 museums and over 100 galleries in a inner city circle.
Zürich is famous for its highly efficient, clean and safe public transport system, owned by the several municipal transport agencies and managed by the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), which covers the entire canton of Zürich, plus some municipalities in bordering cantons for the passenger's convenience (in fact the 18x fare zones and some stops in zone 155). The network includes trams, buses (local city/municipality buses as well as the yellow bright Swiss PostAuto buses), suburban trains (S-Bahn), regular trains (SBB), cable cars and boats.
The quintessential Zürich dish is Zürigeschnätzlets, chopped veal in a cream and wine sauce, normally served with Rösti. Various kinds of grilled Würste (sausages, singular: Wurst) are also popular. These are most often accompanied by boiled potatoes, or Rösti, a kind of hash-browns, just much better (boiled potatoes then grated, then pan fried in butter until crisp) or Chnöpfli (small noodle dumplings, in Germany called Spätzle).
Zurich is the financial centre of Switzerland and most travellers come with an expense account. The hospitality sector focuses therefore mostly on the 4 and 5 star hotels. Zurich is known for its superb hotels, but these won't come cheap. Best is to go on a company rate, because rack rates are sometimes ridiculous.
