FES - MAROC | Fez - Morocco | Fes el Bali | Medina.
FES - MAROC | Fez - Morocco | Fes el Bali | Medina. Visit Fes, Morocco, the so-called Mecca of the West, and its Medina. Fes el Bali is the oldest walled part of Fes, Morocco. It is the biggest car-free urban area in the world and is listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO. University of Al Quaraouiyine, founded in 859, is the oldest continuously functioning university in the world.

Morocco Fes Bab Boujloud Gate
First built in the 11th century, this gate has been restored and upgraded many times. In 1913, during the reign of the Alaouite Sultan Moulay Hafid, the gate was decorated with enamelled ceramic tiles, blue on one side and green on the other.
The blue side of the gate opens onto a public square that has recently been upgraded, and its here that the free music concerts of the Festival in the City are held.

Fes, Morocco, a sign for Fes with Fes in English and in Arabic. An archway into the city, men push or ride bicycles through the arch, the camera zooms in to show cars driving alongside a horse and cart and pedestrians. A man drinks from an outdoor tap set into ornate mosaic tiles. Another archway, this one bustling with people.
Haj Ahmed Ezzarghani – Storyteller | Café Clock, Marrakech
Master storyteller (Hakawati) Haj Ahmed Ezzarghani performs at Café Clock in Marrakech. The story is told in Darija (Morrocan Arabic) and concerns a barber who hates women.
Morocco's tradition of hikayat, or storytelling, dates back almost 1000 years. Haj Ahmed Ezzarghani began collecting Morocco's traditional fables during his youth as a traveling salesman. Selling coffee at souks, he joined the crowds gathering around storytellers until one day he had studied the craft long enough to tell the stories himself.
Fifty years later, this traditional form of entertainment is becoming less common. Today, Haj Ahmed trains a group of young apprentices so that they may keep their rich Moroccan heritage alive. On Mondays and Thursdays they tell their tales at Café Clock.

Walking the Medina in Fes
Sorry for the late upload guys but here is my second video in Fes. After waking up and trying in my bathroom sink, I ventured out to explore the old city. The winding streets and old city walls were fascinating. Stopping into several of the old Medersa's were the highlights of the day. The intricacy of the tile and stone work was incredible. I then broke for lunch and tried some camel, but not before buying a jalaba to try and stay warm. Hope you enjoy the video and I hope you tune in to my next adventures in Chefchaouen.
A Stroll Through Fez Morocco
Hi everyone, here's all about the places mentioned in the video that you might want to know:
Riad Razane:
Cozy hotel in the north-east of the Medina ( about a 10 minute walk to R'Cif Square). Very beautiful courtyard for relaxing, rooms are spacious and have a nice decoration. Great breakfast as well
Chouara Tannery
a very interesting and intense place to see. Just follow the red signs from Place R'Cif. Some people will ofer you to show the Tannery (for a fee) Otherwise just find one of the Shops with a rooftop terrace. They'll give you a mint leave to cover the smells. Expect to pay around 20 Dirham per Person.
It's really great to see the process of leather-making, and Fez is one of the very few places that you can witness the very traditional way of doing so.
R'Cif square
The central Square of Fez. From here it's easy to start your route through the Souks and markets surrounding it. In the evening the place fills with stalls selling food and souvenirs as well as household goods. Find a cafe to sit down somewhere for a great time watching the scenery and people.
Cherratine Madrasa
Admission is Dirham and well worth it. Unlike in other Madrasas you can explore all of the building, including the former dorms of the pupils. The courtyard is stunning with all the decoration in plaster, tiles and wood.
Bab Boujloud
one of the most stunning of the many Fez city-wall gates. Very photogenic having one side painted in green and the other one in blue.
It's the very last gate on the stroll through the Medina, for getting there just follow the signs from Place R'Cif. The way there is interesting as well with many different markets on the way.
Cafe Clock
Popular hangout and restaurants close to the Bou Inania Madrasa. They're having music and cinema evenings as well. Expect to spend around 120 Dirham for a lunch per Pax.
Madrasa Bou Inania
Admission is 20 Dirham. One of the most beautiful Madrasas of Morocco. The stile is one of the finest examples of Marinid-dynasty architecture. However, you can only visit the courtyard and take a look at the prayers area. Find it close to Bab Boujloud, just on the main path cutting through the Medina.
Palais Royal
Unfortunately the only area of the palace that is open to the public is the main gate. It's a nice photo opportunity, but nothing else to see there, as everything else is off limits.
Best to take a Taxi from the Medina (8-12 Dirham or so), as it's a bit far from town and not a scenic walk getting there.
Dar Saada Restaurant
Located in the Al-Attarine souk, this is a great restaurant, especially the atmosphere of this place is stunning. Dining there makes you feel like a royal. While the food is average, the view there alone is worth a visit. Expect to pay around 150 Dirham / Person.
We really hope you enjoy our video and please comment and subs our Channel!
Thank you,
