Fresh water set to flow out of Murray
Strong flows in the Murray River this week means that it is likely fresh water will flow out of the Murray mouth in South Australia - something that has not happened since 2002. The rare event coincides with the release of the long awaited Murray-Darling Basin plan.

The 1899 pearling fleet disaster - Queensland stories
Ian Townsend talks about his research into the 1899 pearling fleet disaster in which about three hundred or more people died on Cape York (Australia). One of the main resources he used was a book called The Pearling Disaster 1899: a Memorial, published a just few months after the disaster. This very rare book is available through the Heritage Collection of the State Library of Queensland, the John Oxley Library -
Ian was the recipient of the State Library of Queensland's John Oxley Fellowship for 2005.
A Decade of Australian Shipbuilding & Integration - The Auxiliary Systems Manager
Over the past decade, more than 5,000 people have dedicated millions of hours of effort to the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) program. As the most complex defence program ever undertaken in Australia, this program has developed the specialist shipbuilding and complex systems integration skills that will form the foundation for Australia’s future shipbuilding projects for decades to come.
With an Adelaide workforce of 1,700, the highly skilled men and women working at the Osborne Naval Shipyard are the backbone of Australia’s shipbuilding industry. The breadth of the industry spans across hundreds of skill sets – from project managers to systems engineers to welders and administrators – these are the faces of the workforce behind the Defence Force.
The third profile in our series is Bruce McIntee, Test & Activation Auxiliary Systems Manager at the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance.
