Bow Valley Parkway Banff Alberta Canada 2016
The Bow Valley Parkway (Highway 1A) runs from Banff to Lake Louise. It is about 32 miles of scenic, curvy road nestled among mountains directly on the northeast side of the road and more distant mountains on the southwest side of the road. The road is dotted with viewpoints, picnic sites and trails. It was along this road that we spotted a big black bear with her two cubs. They were busily munching on berries by the side of the road. The road was empty at seven in the morning so we could sit in the road while the bears ignored us and ate those berries just as fast as they could. After watching and filming them for a couple minutes, mama bear stood on her hind legs (she was big!) and vigilantly peered down the edge of the woods (not at us). About 30 seconds later, she did the same thing but this time she summoned her cubs and ran off into the woods. I think she smelled a male bear. We were just so excited to see the bears! In another few minutes we were entering the Village of Lake Louise still talking about our lucky sighting of the bears.
The music we used for this slide show is Moon River by Henry Mancini.

Motorcycle ride on the world famous Bow Valley Parkway between Banff and Lake Louise Alberta, Canada.
This is the 9th video for our Escape Parked Motorcycle Syndrome with VRIDETV series.
We know there's a lot of people out there that have had to park their bikes until Spring... We asked the question: Would you like us to post some #motorcycle riding videos 30-60 minutes long, with no editing, no music, just the sounds of the wind in your face and the motorcycle's engine and exhaust? The response was overwhelmingly YES : )
New videos will be posted every Thursday until SPRING more at

Lake Louise to Banff via Bow Valley Parkway 1A Drivelapse
This drive begins at the intersection of Trans Canada Highway 1 and Alberta Route 93, the southern end of the Icefields Parkway. I headed south (actually, eastbound) on Highway 1 for a moment, then exited onto 1A - the Bow Valley Parkway, for the drive into Banff. 1A ends shortly before Banff, so the final few moments are back on Highway 1.

Long Play: Lake Louise to Banff via Bow Valley Parkway and Mt Norquay ski resort
Taking the scenic route from Lake Louise to Banff, along the Bow Valley Parkway, a spur of the Trans-Canada Highway that gets closer to the sights and wildlife of Banff National Park.
We rejoin the Trans-Canada about 6km west of Banff, and then take a 12km detour up to the ski resort of Mt. Norquay before heading back down in to the Albertan town of Banff.

Banff National Park, Canadian Rockies: Bow Valley Parkway
Banff National Park is the oldest and most famous park in the Canadian Rockies. At the beginning of the video the mountains around Cannmore (at the border of the park) are shown. The video then follows the Bow Valley Parkway that offers beautiful views of the Rocky Mountains. The video ends at the Johnston Canyon and Johnston waterfalls.
Driving the Icefields Parkway through Banff National Park, Canada *HD*
From Wikipedia:
The Icefields Parkway, also known as Highway 93 north, is a scenic road in Alberta, Canada. It parallels the Continental Divide, traversing the rugged landscape of the Canadian Rockies, travelling through Banff National Park and Jasper National Park. It links Lake Louise with Jasper to the north. At its southern end, the Icefields Parkway terminates at the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). Highway 1 west goes to Yoho National Park in British Columbia and Highway 1 east to Lake Louise and the Town of Banff. A second parkway, the Bow Valley Parkway also links Lake Louise and the Town of Banff. Known as Highway 1A, this road parallels Highway 1 and, at the midpoint, passes the Castle Mountain junction where Highway 93 south, or the Banff-Windermere Highway, branches southwest into Kootenay National Park in British Columbia.
The Icefields Parkway, 230 km (140 mi) long, was completed in 1940. It is named for features such as the Columbia Icefield, visible from the parkway.
The parkway is busy in July and August with up to 100,000 vehicles a month. The parkway is mainly two lanes with occasional passing lanes. It minimizes grades and hairpin turns but travellers must look out for wildlife, and vehicles stopped on the shoulder. Snow can be expected at any time of year and extreme weather is common in winter.
A Canadian national parks permit is required to travel on the Icefields Parkway; stations near Lake Louise and Jasper enforce the law. Commercial trucks are prohibited. The speed limit is 90 km/h (55 mph) although the limit is reduced at Saskatchewan River Crossing and the Columbia Icefield area. In winter, chains or all-season radial tires are required by law and road closures are not uncommon.
