Workington A.F.C 2-0 Barwell F.C : The Goals
F.A Cup 3QR (Replay) 2012-2013 Season.
Report (News&Star): Workington Reds see off Barwell in FA Cup. Workington waltzed into the final FA Cup qualifying round with a comfortable 2-0 win over Barwell.
Jordan Connerton and Jake Simpson fired the goals that secured Reds' right of passage in a deadly last 13 minutes.
Former Crewe hitman Connerton slid the ball expertly past Liam Castle to open the scoring on 77 minutes.
It followed a sublime backheel by Gareth Arnison that allowed Connerton to stare into the whites of Castle's eyes.
Simpson cemented Reds' victory with a last minute volley as Barwell chased the game.
His back-post strike came after good work from fellow substitute, who raced clear down the right wing.
Workington were the better side throughout, as Southern Premier side Barwell struggled to keep up the relentless pace.
The Leicestershire minnows resorted to naughty challenges, culminating in a bust up after Nigel Julien went through Dan Wordsworth late into added time.
Workington's win set up a mouth-watering clash with Blue Square Bet Premier side Mansfield.
Just 90 minutes separate Reds from a place in the first round proper, but in ex-Football League side Mansfield, they face dangerous opposition.
Darren Edmondson's men have only made the first round once in the last 30 years -- losing in 2007 to Bury.
In the third qualifying round replay, Barwell chased shadows for most of the match, but when in possession, switched defence into attack with vigour.
Paul Spacey hit the base of the post midway through the first half after a beautiful cross-field ball by strike partner Luke Barlone.
That was as good as it got for the visitors, as a Mark Boyd-inspired Reds began to take their opponents apart.
Boyd was handed the captain's armband with David Hewson missing through injury, and played his new role well.
The midfielder's passing ability and set piece delivery is a huge weapon in Workington's armoury and Boyd took centre stage with a number of raking balls.
And it was the ex-Carlisle United man that fired the first shot in anger.
Unfortunately, his 24th minute effort was straight at Castle, who gathered at his feet.
Arnison was next to try his luck, but the striker again hit his shot straight at the goalkeeper.
After the break, Kyle May had a chance to make himself a FA Cup hero again, but unlike against Blyth Spartans in the previous round, the defender's header was deflected wide.
The difference between the first half and second was the introduction of striker Wright, whose industry caused problems for the Barwell defence.
Despite the numerous attacking options open to Workington, it was full back Niall Cowperthwaite who threatened to open the scoring on 66 minutes.
The marauding defender jinked through the defence, before firing a warning shot from the edge of the box.
Stalemate didn't last much longer as nine minutes after Wright's introduction, the deadlock was broken.
Wright's ball into the feet of Arnison saw the striker cheekily flick the ball into the path of Connerton, who took a touch below rolling the ball past the hapless Castle.
The goal sparked Barwell into life, and as the visitors began to chase the game, Workington cemented their place in the next round.
Simpson, on for less than six minutes, had hardly touched the ball before slamming home at the far post.
Workington Reds: Taylor, Cowperthwaite, Wordsworth, May, Bolton, Vaulks, Boyd (Wright 68), McLuckie, Connerton, Arnison, da Costa (Simpson 84). Subs (not used): Scott, Hewson, Dixon, Wraighte, Brown.
Attendance: 386
Referee: Paul Davison
Star man: Niall Cowperthwaite continues to impress at right back. His defensive work and distribution help Workington at both ends of the pitch.

Belturbet on Erne River Cavan Ireland
Belturbet location is at one of the best places for crossing the River Erne. When the Anglo-Normans tried to conquer Cavan in the early 13th century, Walter de Lacy built a small fort on Turbot Island. The fort was probably made of wood and it hasn't survived, though the steep mound of earth where it was built is still to be seen.
In the 17th century Belturbet was developed by Stephen Butler, a planter from England. It became an important trading centre, and it also had an English garrison. Many of the original fortifications are in good repair. The town retains much of its original lay-out. The main street leads to the square or 'diamond' where all of the town's important buildings are situated. The parish church dominates the sky-line; some of it dates from the early 17th century, and it was one of the first Anglican churches built in Ireland. James Somers won the Victoria Cross during World War One. He is buried at the local Church of Ireland. . Aylesbury News, Market Is 'Out The Back Of A Van!' because of 50mph Wind
No market stalls are being put up in Aylesbury today, because of strong gusts of wind.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the wind today, with gusts of over 50mph predicted.
Town centre managers say they have reluctantly decided not to put up the market stalls as the risk of the wind blowing the stalls over makes it unsafe for both traders and the public.
The markets are still OPEN though and traders have the option of working out of the back of their vans.
As well as the traditional market today also sees the monthly Farmers Market on Aylesbury Market Square from 9am until 2pm and there is also the Tuesday Vintage & Craft Bazaar.

Rose, who's bringing up a tri-cultural son in Stockwell - Londoner #13
Born in South London, Rose has lived within Stockwell and Brixton's Spanish community for her entire life. She speaks Spanish and Engish to equal degrees, and retains strong links with her Spanish roots.
Rose's husband, Artif, is from Egypt, and speaks Arabic as his first language. After unsuccessfully trying for a child for many years, Artif took Rose back to Egypt for fertility treatment, where it's a third of the price of comparable treatments in London.
They now have a three-year old son, Zacary, who lives within a multicultural community and is already tri-lingual - a truly international South Londoner.

TRANSCRIPT
Knowing that you're pregnant and then, you have those first few months when you're worrying that, you know, anything could happen and I think that went on quite far into the pregnancy. I was really cautious about everything and worried. When he finally did arrive it was amazing; I couldn't quite believe it and to be honest with you, I still look at him today and I can't believe it. We had quite a journey to get him, as it were. We were trying for a long time and I had to have an operation, so you know, it led to me having to have IVF, to be able to get him. The first round of treatment I had here and it was successful, but unfortunately I miscarried. So that meant obviously having to try again and then the subsequent two sessions I had were in Egypt, because it was a lot cheaper than here. Over here you're looking around the six thousand pound mark, maybe even more, whereas in Egypt it was around two. What questions where you going to ask? No, no questions? Can you speak English? I tend to speak to Zachary in Spanish and Dad speaks to him in Arabic. I do consider myself Spanish; I was born here, St Thomas's, same as my son. But, you know, I've grown up in a very Spanish household and very firm routes of knowing where you're from. You're culture, your language and everything. Yeah, I'm going to come now, okay. It's a very international household, I would say. Be good huh? You're going to see the animals. You know, we've had all flavours from, you know from around the world that we've grown up with and I think it's extremely important to have that kind of understanding that we're all different, but having that level of respect for one another and understanding is important. Even though, you know, you're in a steady relationship, that you've been in for a long long time and you're happy, you always felt that there was something missing and having friends that have children and being round them, you always felt that you wanted that as well.
