Portugal's Roman Ruins, Conímbriga!
WillVlog on Instagram:
En route to the Algarve we stopped by a lesser known tourist spot in Portugal, Conímbriga. This is Portugal's most well preserved Roman Ruin. The streets and the houses with their perfumed and cool patios, the floors paved with polychromatic mosaics and the perfume coming from the baths make us imagine a pompous, almost “imperial”, Conímbriga.

Lisbon´s Underground Roman Galleries (Portugal)
Lisbon´s Underground Roman Galleries open to public 2013-09-20 to 2013-09-22
Video made on the 20th September 2013.
Lisbon´s Underground Roman Galleries, located in Rua da Prata, Baixa, will open to the public on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of September. The entrance is in Rua da Conceição nº 77.
Discovered in 1771 during the reconstruction of Lisbon after the earthquake of 1755, the galleries are dated from the first century after Christ and are similar to other public buildings of the Roman city of Olisipo. You can visit a network of perpendicular galleries with small cells on the side of the galleries; probably used as storage spaces. Also visible are the stone arches, a technical characteristic of the Roman architecture, and also the spring galleries from where the water flows which then floods the whole room.

Episode 4
The Summer Solstice is still a tribute to the Sun. Its cult, after having been rationalised, was integrated in the new Christianity. Symbols like the Sun Chariot, the Queen of Vegetation (a representative of the Spirit of Vegetation), the Solar Wheels, bonfires and plant-related magic, are still very presented in the contemporary festivities.
Porto: visit to a UNESCO World Heritage Site - LUXE.TV
Porto: visit to a UNESCO World Heritage Site - LUXE.TV
** Porto, a UNESCO World heritage site
Here’s a city made for walking…..
It’s little streets full of history and nostalgia make us want to turn back time.
To stroll along the Douro River, discover emblematic monuments like the Porto-São station or the Sé Cathedral, or taste the sweet flavour of wine are the musts of this city in the north of Portugal.
Welcome to Porto.
Nicknamed the unconquered city, Porto is the city that gave the country its name.
Initially it was called, Cale, but the Romans thought they were right at the time to add the word Port. Portus Cale was thus born.
During our city trip, we’ll discover the smallest corner of this surprising city, starting with its historic city centre, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. After dropping our luggage at the Hotel Sheraton, we invite you to enter the medieval neighbourhood of Ribeira, then take the Dom-Luis bridge, one of the 6 bridges that cross the Douro.
Liberdade Square and the São Bento train station with its hall adorned with azulejos will amaze you. Not forgetting the beaches, the tourism activities, or the places to party….in Porto, there’s something for everyone, trust us!
But for now, we’re going to get settled at the magnificent Porto Hotel & Spa. Located in the business district, the hotel is surprising by its design.
The modernity of its lines and transparency games, inside and out, are irresistibly successful.
The stairs dominating the lobby as well as the crisscross of the glass elevators have truly charmed us…
The location of the hotel makes it an ideal place, for business and tourism.
And for the rooms, there is ample choice.
Deluxe or club rooms with executive and junior suites, there is plenty of choice.
Access to the spa and club lounge are included and available all day.
But there is a place that Joana Almeida is particularly proud of, and it’s located in this space on the 11th floor.
Not being there for business, we decided to go for a walk along the Douro, the river that had such a large role to play in the wine trade, especially during the 18th century.
At that time, Port wines, which were not yet the wines we know today and were more like simple table wines, were barely consumed in Portugal and really intended for wine export, especially to the UK market.
It was here that the flat-bottomed boats transported the barrels of wine in order to load the ships that remained far away, at the mouth of the Douro in the Atlantic Ocean.
Today the Rabelos as they are called, are used for tourist cruises, and allow the curious traveller to discover the 6 bridges connecting the city of Porto to the Villa Nova of Gaia.
The Dom Luis Bridge is the most emblematic.
Inaugurated in 1886, it was designed by the engineer Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel.
You can admire it comfortably on the terrace of a café on the river. In this district of Ribeira, there is no shortage of places to party and enjoy a good Portuguese dish.
When you turn your head, you cannot escape the colourful facades and flowered balconies, typical of this neighbourhood.
And if the desire to discover Porto in a different way tempts you, why not opt for a helicopter flight.
Flyovers of the city can range from 10 to 60 minutes in the air, for a budget ranging from 45 to €215 per person.
After this excess of emotions, let's take advantage of the SPA at the Sheraton Hotel.
With nearly 2000m2 devoted to well-being, this Spa is the ideal place to relax before or after a hard day.
Yoga room…sauna and aromatherapy are proposed.
As well as a vitality pool placed in the middle of this space bathed in natural light.
The perfect way to feel relaxed and calmly prepare for care treatments offered by a team of specialists
For those who feel the need to freshen up before dinner: fitness, hair salon, manicure, everything is on offer.
The hotel restaurant is quite chic.
Behind this glazed cube, there’s a must-have experience.

The stunning stained-glass windows of the León cathedral.
Upon arrival in León, Spain, with Duperier's Authentic Journeys, our company of pilgrims set out on a city tour that included its stunning cathedral.
Dedicated to Santa María de la Regla, the León cathedral is also known as “The House of Light” or the “Pulchra Leonina,” a sublime masterpiece of the French Gothic with most of its edifice modeled after the cathedrals in Reims and Saint-Denis in France.
Dating back to the 13th century, today’s cathedral was built upon ancient Roman baths from the second century and inside, a heavenly light bathes its cavernous interior with the translucent majesty of 125 stained-glass windows, most of which have survived since the 13th-15th centuries. Above the western portal, the Virgin Mary welcomes worshipers and pilgrims while Saint James himself makes an appearance to the right.

Sao Pedro do Sul e suas Termas Romanas by El Jefe Midnight lunch
Religuias arqueologicas romanas.
