The Best of Sweden - Brahehus
BRAHEHUS is a ruin at the freeway on E4, 'Vättern trail', three kilometers north of Gränna.
Per Brahe d.y. allowed to start building Brahehus 1637 and the work was not clear until mid-1650's. Construction work was hampered by the need to transport building materials up the mountain. Originally Brahehus was conceived as a jointure for Brahe's wife Kristina Katarina Stenbock but since she died in 1650 the building was used instead for the accommodation of Brahe guests.
When the building was completed it consisted of a high main building at the cutting edge down to Vättern and two square corner towers. From Brahehus was then and is still a milsvid overlooking Vättern, Visingsö and neighbors.
After Per Brahe's death in 1680 emptied Brahehus on furnishings and shortly thereafter was in the county to the crown under Karl XI's reduction. In the autumn of 1708, a fire erupted in the neighboring channels and upgraded the fire spread even to Brahehus, which burned down to the ground.
Brahehus is at 270 meters above sea level, 180 meters of water, one of Sweden's largest height differences to a larger lake or sea with views of the same. Sweden's highest motorway is E4 south of Brahehus. Brahehus today at the highway and there is also a very popular picnic place and restaurant with views to Vättern and Visingsö.

Västanå slott, Gränna
Västanå slott ligger söder om Gränna i Jönköpings kommun. Slottet, som är högt beläget intill en golfbana som drivs av Gränna golfklubb, fungerar idag som hotell och restaurang. Många söker sig hit för den goda maten som slottet är känt för.
Bland de första ägarna till slottet finns familjen Bielke som uppförde slottet på 1590-talet. Egendomen köptes sedan av Per Brahe d.y. som redan ägde Visingsborg och Brahehus.
År 1725 köptes slottet av översten vid Hälsinge regemente, Fredrik Svanhals, senare adlad Gyllensvaan. Han fick inga egna barn och instiftade Västanå fideikommiss. Egendomen hamnade sedan i familjen von Otters ägo som under 1930-talet renoverade slottet och förvandlade det till ett sommarhotell 1948.
Idag har hotellet 21 rum och restaurang och är öppet året runt.

Located 3 km outside of Gränna in Jönköping County in the province of Småland (Sweden), the ruins of Brahehus Castle sits 270 m above sea level and 180 m above the lake Vättern, providing a panoramic view of the lake and the island of Visingsö. Built for Count Per Brahe the Younger in the 1640s, the castle was abandoned by the 1680s and suffered a fire in 1708. The castle is near the modern E4 highway and is a popular destination for recreation and tourism.
