It is present in the heart of the town with its historic value
It is one of the very few temples of Lord Brahma across India
Lord Brahma being creator, who is protecting the 4 vedas by chanting them by his 4 tongues
According to philosophy, one born should finally reach the creator( Brahma) himself
The story behind the temple, when Lord Brahma considered superior than Lord Shiva & Vishnu in creation,
Knowing him, Lord Vishnu sent a ghost (bhooda) to tremble Brahma
In order to seek protection, he surrendered to Vishnu for forgiveness, who erased his knowledge of creations & vedas
As a remedy, Lord Vishnu suggested him to do penance (Pariharam) in earth
So Brahma chose this town, which was the start of creation for Kali Yuga (present age of the world)
Getting pleased by his penance, Vishnu taught the vedas back to him, hence the name of the temple Vedanarayana Perumal who is the prime deity along with Goddess Vedavalli (Lakshmi)
It is relatively small temple which is over 500 years old
To the right of the sanctum, a shrine for Brahma is presided with Goddesses Saraswathi & Gayathri
In this temple Brahma has 4 faces - front face,2 adjoining faces & back face is of female which can be seen in the mirror through reflection
To the left, a shrine for Lord Yoganarasimha is found with Goddesses Sreedevi & Bhoodevi
There is a belief that visiting here & placing your horoscope at Brahma's feet will change your life for better

It is believed that the name of the town Kumbakonam is derived from the legend associated with Kumbeswarar Temple. Kumbakonam, roughly translated in English as the Jug's Corner, is believed to be an allusion to the mythical pot (kumbha) of the Hindu god Brahma that contained the seed of all living beings on earth. The kumbha is believed to have been displaced by a pralaya (dissolution of the universe) effected by Hindu god Shiva's arrow and ultimately came to rest at the spot where the town of Kumbakonam now stands. The nectar is believed to have fallen in two places - the Mahamaham tank and the Potramarai tank. This event is now commemorated in the Mahamaham festival held every 12 years. Kumbakonam was also formerly known by the Tamil name of Kudamukku. Kumbakonam is also identified with the Sangam age settlement of Kudavayil.

Sri Brahmapureeswarar Temple, Tirupattur
Sri Bramhapureeshwarar Temple in Tirupattur (Perambalur district), 25 kms from Trichy, Tamil Nadu. While this is predominantly a Shiva temple, it is very closely associated with Lord Brahma, and an ancient shrine for Brahma resides within the temple complex. Regular worship of Lord Brahma is conducted here. As Brahmma worshipped Shiva here, the Lord is named Brahmmapureeswarar. Lod Brahma appears with turmeric dressing on all Thursdays. In entrance mandap , the entire Narasimha Avatara are beautifully sculpted on pillars with the Dwaja sthambam and nandi. When devotees touch the Nandi (the bull vehicle of Lord Shiva), a feeling of touching a real and live bull is experienced by them. On the Pradosha day (13th day either from New Moon or Full Moon days), the crowd is huge to have the Nandi touch and experience. The Jeeva Samadhi of Sage Patanjali can be found to the left of the Brahma Sannadhi. Goddess Brahmmanayaki/Brahma Sampath Gowri can be worshipped in a seperate sannadhi outside the main temple. A door way to the right leads to the amman temple and next door is the Pallava complex of the the twelve shiva temples including an old Kailasanathar temple and Brahma Theertham. Kailasanathar Temple has a huge 16 facetted linga. The nandi here is exquisite.

KEEZHAPERUMPALLAM - The Lord Ketu's Temple (The Snake Planet)
Keezhaperumpallam is situated 57kms away from Kumbakonam and 3kms from Poombukar. The temple is constructed by Chola Kings. The presiding deity is Lord Shiva and is worshiped as Naganatha Swamy. This temple is also called as Kethu Sthalam. And this is one of the nine Navagraha sthalas. This is the only temple exclusively to ward away the negative effects caused by Planet Ketu.
Lord Ketu's idol is visible through the entrance with a Silver serpent on the arch. It is rare to find an idol of Lord Ketu with his head. This place is also called Vanagiri.
It is said that there is an underground pass way from this temple to Brihadeeswara temple in Tanjore. At this temple, Lord Ketu can be seen worshipping Naaganathaswami with his folded hands.
Pujas are performed to planet Kethu at Rahukalas and Yemakanda times. 90 minutes each day is covered by these times. Devotees worship Lord Ketu with Lilly flower, multi coloured cloth and horse gram for better eyesight, property and fame etc.
It is very effective to chant Lord Ketu's
Gayatri Mantra for 9 Times everyday
to reduce the malefic effects of Planet Ketu.
