Newcastle Under Lyme Thoughts From The Frontline
Inspired by interest in the First World War Centenary, volunteers at the Brampton Museum collected the wartime photographs, artifacts and documents hidden in the attics of local people. They then worked with local historians, high school students and costumed actors to bring to life the letters from soldiers to their families and other documents from the time. They also created a touring exhibition and a second film focusing on the experience of the home front.
For more details about the funding available for First World War projects please see the HLF First World War webpage.
Raising Awareness in Newcastle-under-Lyme
Talking to real people that can make primary observations to know instead of being misled by secondary information. I nominate you to record a conversation and then nominate 2 of your friends...we could make it go viral online and off the radar!
...I know, from making my own observations that we are being lied to about the dimensions of Earth, as no matter the distance, there is no measurable curvature at water level, Stars are clearly not over 20 trillion miles away by having made a video with a modern camera and watching in slow motion and that Moonlight chills water with 30 minutes during the waning phase by 2-3°F or even more if you use a magnifying glass. Labeling a mixture of people who are inquiring for reproducible evidence each with individual with different personal beliefs as Flat Earthers is not scientific, nor should it be socially acceptable as it is prejudice. Also defending an industrial source is sign of fanatism and is potentially dangerous ????
*Earth is either flat or a 4th dimensional shape...I don't mind religious organizations being tax except but embezzling over 100,000,000 per day of worldwide taxes, indoctrination of the youth and unsupervised geoengineering has to end!

Blockhouse Barbecue Grill At The Sheet Anchor Newcastle Under Lyme Staffordshire
Blockhouse Barbecue Grill At The Sheet Anchor, Baldwin’s Gate, Newcastle-Under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England.
Blockhouse is one of the best meals I have had in recent months. Our server Joanna was attentive and made sure my partners allergies were taken care of. We each had 3 courses, a bottle of Prosecco, after dinner cocktails and liquor coffees all for around £58 per head. I thought it was very good value for the quality of the food. I look forward to coming back.

What do you know about Philip Astley
During summer 2016, we asked residents of Newcastle-under-Lyme what they knew about Philip Astley, father of the modern day circus.
Philip Astley was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme in 1742. He went on to become a master equestrian, pioneer and showman. In 1768 Astley created the first 42ft diameter 'circus ring', still the standard size used in circus across the world.
Supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund, a group of local organisations are planning events to take place in the town in 2017 and 2018 - the 250th anniversary of Astley's invention and the birth of the modern day circus.
As we develop the project, we've been asking local people what they already know about Astley, what they think, and how they'd like to find out more.
Using this feedback, we're planning an exhibition at the Brampton Museum, circus skills and Philip Astley workshops, a large event in Lyme Valley... and lots more! To find our more, and tell us what you think - get in touch via Facebook @PhilipAstleyProjects.

Fun at Award Winning Park
Free theatre workshops, museum activities and yoga sessions was on offer as part of a national event to celebrate parks.
Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council teamed up with the New Vic Borderlines and Staffordshire Wildlife Trust to provide free family fun at Brampton Park on Friday, 29 July to mark the fifth birthday of Love Parks Week.
The annual campaign, run by national parks charity GreenSpace, aims to get people outdoors and take advantage of what their local parks have to offer.
There was train rides, a penalty shoot-out competition, bouncy castle and a special appearance by Brampton Bear.
Families also enjoyed wildplay sessions, art in the park and crazy golf and also got advice from council officers on recycling and pet ownership at the event.

Everything was Rosy in the Garden in Newcastle-under-Lyme for Bloom Tour
Green-fingered residents, community groups, children and Council staff showed off their wonderful gardening projects when they met horticultural experts from Heart of England in Bloom on Wednesday, 17 July.
The judges toured gardens, parks and initiatives in Newcastle-under-Lyme as part of the borough’s entry in the regional competition’s small city category.
Newcastle went all out to impress once again after winning the overall competition, as well as the coveted small city title and a gold medal, for the past three years on top of representing the region in the illustrious “Champion of Champions” section of the national competition for the first time in 2018 after almost 30 years of involvement in the campaign.

Henry John Yeend King’s Paintings of Rustic English Farms and Young Women in the Countryside
Henry John Yeend King (1855–1924) was an English painter with a realistic style of Impressionism, which he used to portray the beauty of British country life.
From Artnet.com:
Henry John Yeend King was a British artist best known for his paintings of rustic English farms and young women strolling in the countryside. His technique was influenced by Impressionism, but is notably more restrained, detailed, and realistic in its application. Born on August 21, 1855 in London, England, King went on to study as a glass painter, later traveling to Paris to study under Léon Joseph Florentin Bonnat and Fernand Cormon where he learned Impressionist techniques. His works are in the collections of the Manchester Art Gallery, the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery in Leicester, and the Brampton Museum in Newcastle-under-Lyme, among others. King died on June 10, 1924 in London.
