Swift tower installation Braywick Nature Reserve Maidenhead 9 May 2016
This video shows how a swift tower made by Stoneyford Engineering is set up. This installation was done for our group, the Maidenhead, Marlow and Cookham Swift Group, helpourswifts.org.uk. We won an RBWM 'Bright Ideas' prize for the installation of a swift tower to house 20 pairs of swifts during their breeding season (May-August). The tower is British made (hooray!). The concrete base was put in three days ago and the whole process took less than three hours. Well done to the Stoneyford team who were skilled and cheerful!

Releasing toads into lake near Summerleaze, Maidenhead, England
Each year, a volunteer toad patrol rescues over a thousand common toads trying to cross busy roads near Summerleaze to breed in a local lake, and then releases them safely and into the water. This video shot in February 2016.

Is this the Braywick Court School 'Travel Plan'? [Video of 'Walking Bus' route]
For more info please visit: or find us on facebook.
RBWM have agreed to lease land and buildings for a Free School to open on the site formerly used as Winbury School, we think without proper public consultation.
Winbury originally had at most 90 pupils. Braywick Court School will increase this by 233% to 210.
Bellevue Place Education Trust (who will run the new school) want to build a large 2 storey development on public open space & the existing school site.
RBWM have agreed that the Trust can take over the existing Nature Centre building in Braywick park and are planning to BUILD A REPLACEMENT IN THE MIDDLE OF BRAYWICK PARK.
A planning application for all this still hasn't been submitted, despite Braywick Court School opening in September.
None of the local residents of Hibbert Road, Gas Lane, Braywick Road etc have been directly informed of any of this, despite the school claiming there was a 'public consultation'.
What gives the Council the right to do this without a proper public consultation or agreement?
The car park off Hibbert Road by Braywick Park / Nature Reserve was barely big enough to cope with the amount of cars when Winbury School was open, which had at most 90 pupils. Braywick Court School intends to have 210.
Their 'travel plan' involves parents dropping off their kids at the overflow carpark in this video, access to which is single track, so is impractical - and if they use it as they suggest, will involve widening it, on green belt land, on the sports ground, and possibly football pitches.
The kids are then expected to walk the 1/3 mile+ trip along the path (which they dug up through the grassland habitat area at the back of the park without warning - or any apparent environmental survey) to school. The school cannot force parents to do this.
RBWM are promoting the school in the local press and appear to be backing these plans.

Toadlet stopped from crossing into housing site by specialist fencing
This short clip shows how a specialist amphibian/reptile fence stops said creatures from getting into the 'wrong' area - in this case, a newly returning toadlet that we came upon by chance, trying to move from a new wildlife area into what will become a housing estate. This was filmed on 24 June 2016 at Deerswood Meadow in Maidenhead, Berkshire, UK. There is an ancient toad colony of at least 2,100 adults resident in and around the field.
