Camping in Flam | NORWAY
We arrived to a scenic cultural landscape of the Flåm Valley located in the municipality of Aurland in Norway. We pitched out tents immediately wasting no time and wondered off to explore this beautiful surreal place. Everything was perfect including the weather.
An unmissable sightseeing trip for any visitor to Flåm is the panoramic view of Aurlandsfjord from the Stegastein viewpoint. Buses go there frequently. The Flåm Railway considered to be one of Norway's most spectacular tourist attractions attracts visitors from around the world.
One can view a panorama of some of the wildest and most magnificent mountain scenery in Norway at any time of the year. If rivers carving their way through deep gorges, waterfalls leaping off steep mountainsides with snow-covered mountain peaks, as well as mountain farms clinging to steep slopes is your kind of thing, then definitely make sure to experience the Flam railway one day. We have too many favourite places to name in Norway but Flam definitely is highly recommended to visit.

Brekkefossen Waterfall - Flam
I did some exploring around the cute town of Flam when we first arrived. They have a neat history museum in town that is worth checking out! I made sure to go to the Visitor's Center and tried to figure out what I could do in our short window before the cruise ship was to leave. I found out about a hike to the Brekkefossen waterfall and loved that hike! The view is AMAZING! The map you get at the center is very helpful and worth getting.
Shortly after starting my hike, I met a couple from Canada and they had a similar walking/hiking pace to mine so we continued together. The path was extremely muddy and a little difficult. Take your time and you will be fine. We saw some people trying to take a short cut to avoid some mud, but most of the trail is muddy so just get used to it.
Once at the waterfall I ran into some family who started hiking earlier that day. Also, met a nice couple from Spain who helped us take family photos. I did the hike in about 30-45 minutes but the map says it is about 1.5-2 hours round trip. Allow for extra time for the terrain and to enjoy the view. I highly recommend this hike if you visit Flam!

Top of Brekkefossen Waterfall - Flam
This is the end of the trail above Brekkefossen waterfall. It is a lovely hike and very serene! It is probably an additional 20-30 min up the trail from the lookout point.

Flåmsdalen - walk from Flåm to Blomheller and back
5/29/2015
My original plan was to take the overnight train from Oslo to Myrdal and walk down Flåmsdalen to Flåm, a roughly 12-mile walk alongside the famous Flåmsbana. But when the train arrived at Myrdal at 4:30am, the unmanned station was buried in nothing but white. I was surprised at the amount of snow in June and decided the last minute to change my plan and got off the train in Voss instead. From Voss I took the bus to Flåm and checked into the hostel. According to the hostel manager, Flåmsdalen trail was open to walkers and cyclists only from Blomheller station and below. So, with just a light day-pack, I walked from Flåm up to Blomheller until the trail was covered by snow and returned the same way. Together it's about 16 miles round trip. The deep valley of Flåmsdalen is sporadically dotted with working farms and I saw a Postal car delivering mail up and down the trail. The beautiful River Flåmselvi cutting through the valley has many waterfalls injecting from both sides. But last year's flooding did some major damage to the river, including the erosion at higher elevation and the mud accumulated on the riverbed at lower elevation. The trail was also a great place to photograph the famous Flåmsbana winding through valley.
