The bronze statue of the Town Musicians of Bremen is 2 meters high. It was created in 1951 by a German sculptor Gerhard Marcks (Bauhaus master), erected in 1953, and it is the most famous representation of the Bremen Town Musicians, a real logo of the city. It stands next to the Town Hall, to the west of it (near the entrance to the Ratskeller - the Town Hall Cellar, which is a historical restaurant and winery beneath the town hall.)
The statue depicts the four Town Musicians of Bremen - a donkey, a hound (dog), a cat, and a rooster (cock), the protagonists of a folktale by the Brothers Grimm.
It is really interesting, although it is not beautiful, e.g. the cat does not resemble a cat, and it is the worst of all the four animals here. But it was created by a Bauhaus master and sculptor.
However, the statue attracts lots of tourists (probably even more than the nearby stone Roland Statue, much more valuable and 615 years old! [in 2019]) all year long, and it is also the most photographed landmark in Bremen. Most people usually hold on to the front ankles (hooves) of the donkey figure and make a wish. Touching its front hooves is said to make wishes come true.

Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten ist der Titel eines Volksmärchens, das von den Brüdern Grimm aufgezeichnet und 1819 in den Kinder- und Hausmärchen erstmals veröffentlicht wurde. Es erzählt von vier im Alter schlecht behandelten Haustieren, die fortlaufen, in Bremen Stadtmusikanten werden wollen, dort aber nie hinkommen, weil es ihnen auf dem Wege gelingt, die Beute einer Räuberbande zu erobern und in deren Haus fortan zu bleiben.
Der Märcheninhalt :
Das Märchen Die Bremer Stadtmusikanten erzählt von vier Tieren (Hahn, Katze, Hund und Esel), die ihren Besitzern infolge ihres Alters nicht mehr nützlich sind und daher getötet werden sollen. Es gelingt den Tieren zu entkommen, worauf sie sich zufällig treffen. Alle folgen dem Vorschlag des Esels, in Bremen Stadtmusikanten zu werden, und brechen nach Bremen auf. Auf ihrem Weg müssen sie im Wald übernachten. Sie entdecken dort ein Räuberhaus, erschrecken die Räuber, vertreiben sie mit lautem „Gesang“ und übernehmen das Haus als Nachtlager. Ein Räuber, der später in der Nacht erkundet, ob das Haus wieder betreten werden kann, wird von den Tieren nochmals und damit endgültig verjagt.

Die Polizei ist den Verbrechern/dem Dieb auf der Spur, die unter anderem in die Böttcherstraße führt, wo sich unsere Protagonisten des Öfteren aufhalten, aber auch durch Bremens älteste Gassen im Schnoor. Eine wilde Verfolgungsjagd beginnt.

St. Ansgarii zu Bremen 'An der Weser' - im Film
Die ab 1229 erbaute Kirche St. Ansgarii war einst die Dominate in der Bremer Stadt-Silhouette. Infolge des 2. Weltkriegs verschwand sie von 1944 bis 1959 aus dem Stadtbild. Ihre Rückgewinnung sollte das größte Desiderat der Innenstadt-Entwicklung darstellen. Die folgenden Filmaufnahmen sind ihr gewidmet. Der mächtige Turm der Kirche war in seiner Höhe (97m) der letzte seiner Art an der Weser vor Erreichen der offenen See. Damit war er einer der prägnanten Gebäude an diesem Fluß. Ihn mit der Melodie des bekannten Liedes ‚An der Weser’ von Gustav Pressel in Erinnerung zu rufen ist daher mehr als angebracht…
