Brereton Heath Nature Reserve
This morning I visited Brereton Heath Nature Reserve with my Nikon D850. This was a pleasing walk and has given me a useful location to revisit with better light.

Hiking from Brereton Nature Reserve to the Swettenham Arms, Cheshire with a baby, 2 dogs & Paula
Vlog 16 sees us hiking from Brereton Nature Reserve to the Swettenham Arms, Cheshire with a baby, 2 dogs & Paula.
We, Paula and I, spent a pleasant few hours hiking fro Brereton Heath Nature Reserve to the Swettenham Arms in Swettenham village. I took our dogs Burt and Bella out with us. Thomas was, once again, in his Osprey Poco Premium on my back for the entire journey.
This walk shows you a delightful area of Cheshire that most people would never see so get out there and have an explore for yourself.
Brereton nature reserve had volunteers working on the day to create lowland heath to the park where there used to be only woodland. These volunteers were members of the Congleton & District Conservation Volunteers. Please follow the link to see what they do and how you can help them.

Whilst hiking around the reserve we saw a few signs for the Dane Valley Way. Find out more here.
There were also signs for the Brimstone Trail. That, as it turns out, is just the path we walked around the reserve.
There were plenty of dogs and dog walkers around the reserve as well as families out for a pleasant day in the country. Despite the footfall here the reserve is kept in great condition and is always a pleasure to visit.
The paths are flat and easy to walk even if you have a baby in a push chair. There are other paths and tracks that lead off through the trees if you want to be a little more adventurous.
When we left the reserve we headed briefly down the road and across the A54 before following a permissive efootpath through an estate, over a beautiful stream and into Swettenham Village where we stopped at the Swettenham Arms. Great News, it has been returned to its former glory. This pub is definitely worth a visit for a meal and a pint or two. Check it out here.
We reversed our route to get back to the reserve and walked the opposite half of the lake to get back to the van.

What inspired George Ormerod to embark on producing a history of Cheshire?
In 2016 Cheshire Archives & Local Studies celebrated the 200th anniversary of the publication of the first part of George Ormerod's 'History of Cheshire' - still the go-to history of the county. A conversation with John Hess, George's biographer was the highlight of a series of events held in Chester, Crewe and Sandbach.
