The First American Craft Brewery in Berlin, Germany
Founded by Greg Koch and Steve Wagner, Stone Brewing has come a long way since opening up in San Diego, California, in 1996. As the eighth-largest craft brewer in the U.S, they set their sights on Europe, and after looking at more than 130 sites in nine different countries, they found the perfect site in Berlin, Germany . Built in 1901, this former gasworks facility resides on an amazing property with industrial and historic elements.
Stone brewing is known for bold, flavourful and largely hop-centric beers, which has earned a reputation for brewing outstanding, unique beers while maintaining an unwavering commitment to sustainability, business ethics, philanthropy and the art of brewing.
Lastly, my first ever craft beer was the Stone IPA. First brewed in 1997, Stone IPA is the iconic West Coast style IPA that essentially launched generations of hop fanatics in the U.S. Stone will always carry a special place in my heart because of this. Cheers -Jeff

Berlin’s craft beer playground - BRLO Brewery
Super excited to bring you a one of a kind brewery in the heart of Berlin, Germany. BRLO is the slavic origin of the name Berlin. It’s infrastructure is built using 38 shipping containers. What’s not to love about these guys......they have award-winning beers, and an award-winning restaurant.
BRLO beers are brewed with artisanal qualities in small-scale batches. Other than their Helles, they stay true to not filtering the brews so that important and healthy nutrients are retained. Each beer is given enough valuable time to mature and develop its unique hops aroma. Michael is the brewer behind these amazing beers and I’m glad to introduce him to you. Cheers

Microbreweries in Germany | Euromaxx
Microbrewery beer is thriving in Germany even though national beer consumption has gone down. There are more than 1300 local breweries in the country. In fact, in just the last five years more than 100 have opened in Germany. We visit the Eschenbräu in Berlin which has three different types of beer on offer all year round: Pilsner, dark beer and wheat beer, all of them unfiltered.

Oktoberfest And The Brewer Behind Hofbräu München
The inaugural Oktoberfest was first celebrated in Munich in 1810 in honor of Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The festivities began October 12, 1810, and lasted nearly a week until October 17, ending with an exciting horse race. After such a spectacular party, the couple decided that the same type of festival should be continued annually. In the following years, the festivities were repeated every October and they eventually moved forward into September due to better weather.
Today, Oktoberfest is the largest festival in the world, with an international flavor that is extremely characteristic of the 21st century. More than 6 million visitors from all over the world take part in Oktoberfest every year.
Hofbräuhaus History in Munich
1589- The Foundation of the Hofbräuhaus
On September 27th 1589, Duke Wilhelm V. Founded a brewery on the site of the Munich residence - the ancient court ( der Alte Hof). This first Hofbräuhaus existed until 1808 and was only a few paces distance of today’s Hofbräuhaus. They brewed brown beer. Only the foundation document is preserved.
1828- The Hofbräuhaus for Everybody
To the regret of the innkeepers and private brewers, they feared a decrease in guests. King Ludwig I. declared by decree the royal beerhall to become a public beerhall. Even today regular guests of the Hofbräuhaus recall this memorable event by a toast.
1879- The registration of the trade-mark HB
During the 19th century ambitious brewers loved to copy the successful sign of the then already worldwide known brand “Hofbräuhaus” This plagiarism only stopped when the trade-mark, which consisted of a crown and letters HB was declared trade-marked by the imperial patent office of Berlin in 1879.
The Hofbräuhaus with it’s history of more than 400 years, offers many stories which you can experience at the Hofbräuhaus exhibition. Open daily from 9am - 1700 on the gallery of the historic festival hall (2nd floor). Free entry.

Berlin Beer Trip with Victory Bill
A few members of the Righteous Felon team were lucky enough to tag along with Victory Co-Founder, Bill Covaleski, to check out the brand new Stone Berlin during the brewing of Saison du BUFF - the collaboration beer between Victory, Dogfish Head, and Stone. The larger-than-life brewery and restaurant occupy a freshly rehabilitated gas works facility on the outskirts of Berlin, Germany. The brewpub can seat over 1200 guests and features an array of one-off live edge tables, water falls, outdoor seating, grassy knolls, indoor trees, a library, and a giant, decommissioned gas treatment structure that, for no explainable reason, is really fun to drink beer next to.
A neverending tap-list that features beers brewed on site, from Stone Escondido, and a few other breweries along with a dynamite menu make this an almost impossible compound to escape. In our first 36 hours in Berlin, 28 of them were spent here.
RF Favorites: Stone IPA with Calpyso Hop Variety and the Jalepeno, Blue Cheese Cheese Cake with Blueberry Sauce. No, that's not a typo.
Bill then hosted a few awesome beer and jerky tastings at some of Berlin's best craft beer joints like Foersters Feine Biere and Getränkefeinkost, put on an incredible beer dinner at Das Meisterstück, and finished the tour up with a Victory Tap Takeover at Hopfenreich.
Prost!
For more info on Saison du BUFF or this trip, check the below.
Thank You Stone Berlin
One of the best parts of the craft beer industry (other than the beer, of course) is the spirit of camaraderie among like-minded brewers. While there are many breweries across the world that we consider compatriots, there are few that align with our mission and personality more than BrewDog.
With a shared goal of continuing the craft beer revolution in Europe, Stone will be passing stewardship of our Berlin brewery to BrewDog. Distribution of Stone beers throughout Europe will continue uninterrupted and Stone Brewing Tap Room – Prenzlauer Berg will also be unchanged. Meanwhile BrewDog will gain a foothold in continental Europe and an extremely badass production brewery, if we do say so ourselves.
We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported us in our journey to becoming the first independent American craft brewer to build, own and operate our own brewery in Europe.
We know BrewDog will continue its legacy in a way that will make us all tremendously proud, but that doesn't mean it was an easy decision. A note from Greg: bit.ly/TooBoldTooSoon
