Eureka Springs Carnegie Library Birthday Party
Don Matt and Scott Thompson sing Give Me Peace, an original tune, during the celebration of the library's 100th birthday celebration.
It's one of two Carnegie Libraries still operating in the state of Arkansas... and operating quite well, I might add.
With great employees and volunteers, THE Library patrons are gifted with the best selection, programs and librarians anywhere.
Scott and Don are both employees of the city of Eureka Springs, and gifted songwriters, musicians and singers.
The city of Eureka Springs is indeed blessed!!

Eat Arkansas: Sandy's Homeplace Cafe
Sandy Woods started her cafe in 1978 after a frustrating night of bar-tending at a local hotel. That night, she saw an ad for a cafe for sale in the industrial and warehouse district in downtown Little Rock and began cooking breakfast and lunch, using Betty Crocker as her guide. Today, Sandy's Homeplace Cafe is well known by the lunch crowds for her ample home-cooked buffet. For $7, it's all you can eat and tea or coffee. But what she's best known for is her pan-fried chicken livers.

Excerpt:
For a century or more southern members of Congress used the seniority and patronage systems to locate a disproportionate share of military bases and military industry to their states. A major share of the Sun Belt economy is comprised of “Sagebrush Rebel” (i.e. corporate welfare) industries like mining, lumber, ranching and oil, which rely heavily on a model of government land engrossment followed by grants of preferential access to industry.
Even in periods of “progressive” dominance like the New Deal, exceptions were carved out for the south as a cheap labor economy centered on textile and migrant farm workers. Far from meaning less government involvement in the economy, this meant interventionist measures like so-called “right-to-work” laws that prohibited employers from entering into union shop contracts — not to mention quasi-private vigilantes, paramilitaries and death squads (the Klan, in which off-duty cops and politicians were heavily represented) to suppress organizing drives by other means.
