Drone flyover - Sydney Olympic Park's - Brickpit Ring Walk
Brickpit Ring Walk - Sydney Olympic Park
At 18.5 meters high, a 550 meter walkway ring above the Brickpit pond is a platform used to view the endangered Green and Golden Bell frog. But don't expect to see any frogs from there unless you have telephoto eyesight. Still a great place to visit if you want a bit of excercise, learn about the Bell Frog and history of the Brickpit. The platrorm does give a birds eye view of the lake and surrounding areas. The walls are lined full with information and pre-recorded talks from old brickies and sounds of frog and creek life come from loud speakers along the platform.
The lake seem to have a green Algae problem at the moment, turning the whole lake green. We did see some wetlands birdlife and wild rabbits roaming the fields. No bikes are permitted on the platform so if your planning to come by bike don't forget to bring a bike chain and lock it on the bike racks provided. There is a bubbler if you need a drink. The best place to park is along Marjorie Jackson Parkway, there are 3 off street parking areas there , M-F 2Hours free, weekends 4 Hours Free, the Wentworth Common section of the carpark is where the closest toilets are located. You'll probably only need 15-30min to walk the ring and read about the history of where Sydney's brick supply came from as early as 1911 and the endangered Bell frog, less time needed if you have kids. Guided night time tours are available if you want to get up close to the frogs at ground level. Wouldn't it be nice if they could regenerate it as a wetlands area, but that would upset the eco system and bring in predatory wildlife so reduce or kill off the endangered Bell Frog community. Sydney Olympic Park is a large sports and entertainment complex in the West of Sydney. It is also an official suburb of Sydney, commonly known as Olympic Park but officially named Sydney Olympic Park. Sydney Olympic Park is located 16 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the City of Parramatta Council.
The area was redeveloped for the 2000 Olympics. The facilities built continue to be used for sporting, musical, and cultural events, including the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Sydney Festival, Stereosonic, Big Day Out, Soundwave, Sydney 500 and a number of world-class sporting fixtures. The suburb also contains commercial development and extensive parklands. The area was originally part of the suburb of Homebush Bay but was designated a suburb in its own right in 2009. The name Homebush is still used colloquially as a metonym for Stadium Australia as well as the Olympic Park precinct as a whole
Homebush Bay Again
I couldn't resist another flight over Homebush Bay. There are so many amazing things to see. The old brick pit with the circular walkway is a pretty cool structure in a very alien looking landscape. The spiral hill was strangely deserted and the old wrecks were mostly submerged as it was high tide but the scenery is nevertheless breathtaking.
