There is a bridge in Oxford called the Bridge of Sighs. It is very famous and is in many of the well known photos of Oxford. The bridge is actually called Hertford Bridge as it is part of Hertford College. In this film, I take you over the Bridge of Sighs. We go via Hertford College, which is one of the colleges that form the University of Oxford. I hope you like this film. I thought you might be interested in some of the famous places in the UK, as well as learning English. Oxford, a city in central southern England, revolves around its prestigious university, established in the 12th century. The architecture of its 38 colleges in the city’s medieval center led poet Matthew Arnold to nickname it the 'City of Dreaming Spires'. University College and Magdalen College are off the High Street, which runs from Carfax Tower (with city views) to the Botanic Garden on the River Cherwell
Oxford is a city in the South East region of England and the county town of Oxfordshire. Oxford is the 52nd largest city in the United Kingdom, and one of the fastest growing and most ethnically diverse. Bridge Of Sighs, Oxford.
Hertford Bridge, often called the Bridge of Sighs, is a skyway joining two parts of Hertford College over New College Lane in Oxford, England. Its distinctive design makes it a city landmark.
The bridge is often referred to as the Bridge of Sighs because of its supposed similarity to the famous Bridge of Sighs in Venice. However, Hertford Bridge was never intended to be a replica of the Venetian bridge, and instead it bears a closer resemblance to the Rialto Bridge in the same city.
There is a false legend saying that many decades ago, a survey of the health of students was taken, and as Hertford College's students were the heaviest, the college closed off the bridge to force them to take the stairs, giving them extra exercise. However, if the bridge is not used, the students actually climb fewer stairs than if they do use the bridge.

Oxford Stands 'The Bridge of Sighs'
Standing at Oxford's Hertford Bridge which connect's two parts of the Hertford college. It's nicknamed the bridge of sighs after the bridge of the same name in Venice Italy although it actually more closely resembles the Rialto bridge in Venice. This bridge was completed in 1914. It features in many Inspector Morse episodes and also in Lewis.
