Russia's $1 Billion Bridge to Nowhere
Bridges have traditionally been built out of necessity in order to keep people moving from place to place over often large spans of water. However, with modern construction and international pride, having the world’s best structures in their respective category is often strived for when projects are designed. The Russky Bridge which crosses the Eastern Bosphorus Strait is the world’s longest cable-stayed bridge, however, it doesn’t really see much use.
The magnificent structure completed in 2012 spans from the Russian city of Vladivostok to Russky Island, capable of handling 50,000 cars daily. There’s only one problem, Russky Island only has a population of 5,000 people, leaving the roadway largely underused and ultimately, quite useless.

Russky Bridge, Russia. Vantovy Bridge has the biggest flight among the sebepodobnykh – 1104 meters! And the highest poles – 324 meters. The bridge connects the continent to Russky Island, from here and the name Russky Bridge.
Русский мост — вантовый мост во Владивостоке, соединяющий полуостров Назимова с мысом Новосильского на острове Русском. Строительство было начато 3 сентября 2008 года в рамках программы подготовки города к проведению саммита АТЭС в 2012 году. Имеет самый большой в мире пролет среди вантовых мостов, длиной 1104 метра. Общий вес главной металлической балки жесткости руслового пролета — 23 тысячи тонн. Высота пилонов — 324 м. 3 сентября 2012 года на заседании комиссии по городской топонимике города Владивосток было принято решение назвать мост на остров Русский через пролив Босфор Восточный — «Русский мост».

We are back to Russian Island or Russky Island. Last time we came here 10 years ago, before we moved to Singapore.
This island is located in the Great Gulf in the Sea of Japan, in the city of Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai, Russia.
The island is home to Far Eastern Federal University and the southern span of the Russky Bridge, the world's longest cable-stayed bridge, connecting the island to the mainland portion of Vladivostok.
We visited the Oceanarium and enjoyed a stroll along the island.
