Bridlington Priory
Bridlington Priory was founded around 1113. The church was, at point the leading place in Bridlington. In 1538 King Henry VIII had ordered his men to take the led from the church - This was the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The yearly income for the priory was £547 6s - the church had all the wealth of Bridlington. At the Dissolution of the church meant that Bridlington could grow as a community as what we see today.

Priory Church of St.Mary, Bridlington, grid reference TA177680, commonly known as Bridlington Priory Church is a parish church in Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, in the Diocese of York.It is on the site of an Augustinian priory founded in 1113 which was dissolved during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.In 1951 it was designated a Grade I Listed Building.

Bridlington is a coastal town and civil parish on the Holderness Coast of the North Sea, situated in the unitary authority and ceremonial county of the East Riding of Yorkshire approximately 24 miles north of Hull. The Gypsey Race river runs through the town and emerges into the North Sea in the town harbour.
Bridlington is a minor sea fishing port with a working harbour and is well known for its shellfish. Bridlington has a mix of small businesses across the manufacturing, retail and service sectors with its prime trade being tourism during the summer months.
The origins of the town of Bridlington are uncertain, but archaeological evidence shows habitation in the Bronze Age and in Roman times. The settlement at the Norman conquest was called Bretlinton, but has also gone by the names of Berlington, Brellington and Britlington, before settling on its modern name in the 19th century.
The town of Bridlington is twinned with Millau in France and Bad Salzuflen in Germany. One of the UK's coastal weather stations is located at Bridlington. The Priory Church of St Mary and the associated Bayle Gate are Grade I listed buildings. The church stands on the site of the original Augustine Priory.

There are some stunning walks in Bridlington -from the Park and Ride at Southcliff you can hire a chalet on the sand dune beach and walk the promenade to the Bridlington Harbour. There's nothing better than a walk around bridlington. Above all it was a great opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends in 2019.

All the bells were ringing on 27th July outside Bridlington's magnificent Priory Church. Town Crier David Hinde started us all off in fine style, to be joined by the church bells and Bridlington Priory Bellringers, plus others with their own bells. A good turnout and a great event, followed by a welcome breakfast at the Bull and Sun.
