Fourie Family Travels Orroral Valley, Canberra, Australia
The Fouries went on their biggest adventure yet. 5 days through the Australian outback! This video is the trip condensed into a day.
Starting at Yankee Hat in Namadgi National park we walked through rendezvous creek. Here we camped in the frost hollow before crossing into nursery creek the next morning. From here we followed the swamp into the stunning Orroral valley. The Orroral valley is home to hundreds of kangaroos which were all carrying beautiful joeys, well 50% of them were. After a beautiful night we attempted to climb to legoland. This short climb of about 300 vertical meters took us nearly 4 hours. Dense bush, thorns and huge boulders hampering us at every turn!
We filled up with enough water for the next 2 days, around 14 litres and headed onto honey suckle. As you approach honey suckle the kangaroos thin out and you start to see more wallabies. Smaller but less timid and so you can get much closer. The final full day was a long trek to the saddle of Mount Tennent. Another of trail adventure took us to the summit where we camped and watched the sun go down from the top of a huge boulder. The next morning, we watched the sunrise from Mount Tennent before heading down the mountain and back to Outward Bound base camp.
It was a stunning trip made possible with the help of the wonderful people at Outward Bound.
Trek to 180m high waterfall in Brindabella National Park
We set out in search of the 180m high waterfall, but she was dry as a bone. Spectacular nonetheless.
This trek was way out the back of the Brindabella Mountains between Webbs Ridge and the Goodradigbee river - about 10mins north of McIntyres Hut Camp Ground. We parked where Waterfall Creek crosses Waterfall Trail and headed up stream.
The creek was full of blackberries so we spent a fair bit of time scrub bashing to reach our destination. The last part was quite sketchy and we let the drone fly up close to the wall.

2 Light | BRINDABELLAS | 4K
'Light' | The smaller inhabitants of the Brindabellas go about their everyday activities as increasing humidity and afternoon storms promise relief from the dry summer heat.
'Light' is chapter 2 of the feature length near-infrared film 'BRINDABELLAS | edge of light' - from 'part one | summer'.
'BRINDABELLAS | edge of light' features the sky and landscapes of the Canberra region of Australia – in particular the Brindabella Ranges – captured in monochromatic (near) infrared. This feature-length film (140+ minutes in total) focuses on the interplay of mountain light, air and water as these elements are transformed across the seasons – from clouds to mist, rain and snow – then frost and ice – and onto creeks and rivers. It explores both the wider montane vistas of the Brindabellas and the more intimate details of the natural flows that are created by these mountains and, in turn, shape the very landscapes they arise from.
'BRINDABELLAS | edge of light' was filmed with near-infrared light using modified RED Digital Cinema cameras. In photography these are often defined as just infrared but near-infrared is a more accurate description as the wavelengths recorded fall within the near-infrared spectrum: 750 – 1400 nanometres (nm). By comparison, light that’s visible to the typical human eye lies between 390 and 700nm.
The Brindabella Ranges lie to the west of Canberra – Australia’s capital city – and are more commonly referred to as the ‘Brindabellas’. The mountains are a dominant presence on the Canberra skyline and can be seen from most locations in the capital and the surrounding region.
The Brindabellas are neither wildly remote or rarely visited – they are the everyday back-drop to a capital city. In fact many of the landscapes featured in edge of light were filmed from within Canberra’s southern suburbs – often simply from the side of major roads. The aim with developing the film was not so much to reveal an unknown location but to show very familiar landscapes from a different perspective – with both slightly unusual light and slightly altered time and motion.

My Backyard - Canberra Jan 2019
A short drive outside of Canberra there are plenty of trails varying in difficulty from 2wd accessible to challenging drives for modified 4wd’s. Many of the peaks are treeless which means you get some fantastic views across to the city of Canberra or out toward the Kosciuszko National Park.
