Lord Mayor helps small business start, run and grow
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner is backing small business in Brisbane, announcing three new initiatives to help them tackle the challenges of starting, running and growing their ventures.
Cr Schrinner said he was committed to making Brisbane Australia’s most small business-friendly city by providing more support to local small businesses.
“Small businesses are the backbone of Brisbane’s economy and I want to see them succeed, which is why we are introducing three new initiatives to help small business owners feel less isolated and more ready to tackle the challenges of starting, running and growing their ventures in Brisbane,” he said.
“The new programs will include targeted training, free monthly networking events and empty space activation guidelines.
“There are more than 124,000 small businesses providing local services across Brisbane, accounting for 97% of all registered businesses in Brisbane and this raft of initiatives will provide more opportunities for businesses to grow and stay in Brisbane.”
Cr Schrinner said he had been speaking with small businesses across Brisbane and had heard they were facing challenges around finding suitable spaces and receiving support.
“I’ve heard the feedback, I know these businesses want to feel more connected to the local business community, have more life in the suburbs and access training that is focused on their needs,” he said.
“With the right support, small businesses can thrive in our smart and prosperous city, and we want to provide these opportunities so small businesses succeed in Brisbane.”
New small-business initiatives:
Free monthly small business networking events – To be held across Brisbane suburbs each month to help build regular local business connections. These are in addition to the existing Lord Mayor’s Small Business Forums.
Free skills workshops – A series of free intensive business training sessions aimed to help small business owners enhance their skills and build capability. Several to be held across Brisbane each year. These are in addition to the Lord Mayor’s Business Excellence Workshops.
Empty space activation guidelines – Council is developing a set of guidelines for a pilot program to encourage property owners with vacant space in suburban retail precincts to allow temporary pop-up usage between long-term tenancies.
Cr Schrinner said the new small business programs were in addition to the $2 million cuts in fees and charges which was announced in the 2019-20 Brisbane City Council Budget.

Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland is the third largest city in Australia. One of the famous attractions is Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary which is the World's First and Largest Koala Sanctuary. Situated approximately 15KM away from CBD easily accessible by driving or bus. One can easily spend almost half a day here to enjoy feeding and show. In fact, you can cuddle Koala and take photo with them too.!
I visited Cliveden Park located at Moorfields St. It is one of the designated Drone flying area which have the city view from far. There are few parks designated for Drone flying area as well. Please visit Brisbane City Council website.
Please be informed that Brisbane City area is a NO FLY ZONE (NFZ) as indicated in Can I Fly There app. This is due to Brisbane International airport nearby. Therefore, I decided to have a joyride with helicopter just to have city view from above which is included in this short Film.
There are many attractions nearby Brisbane city area such as Anzac Square, Roma Street Parkland, Wheel of Brisbane and City Botanic Garden. On my very last day, I visited Escape hunt. Basically, the game consists of different level of difficulty. Initially, I chose The Jewel Thief, it turns up that the said game is the highest level of difficulty. Since its our first time, she recommended Bomb at Government House instead (Medium).
Once we entered the themed room, its totally new and different atmosphere. Everything placed in incredibly detail with folders. You have to investigate to unlock the code step by step by finding clue. Trust me, its not that easy. We almost gave up and ask for a REFUND. We managed to complete the game by 5 mins left before times up.
Overall, Brisbane is a fun place to go. GO and Discover Brisbane!
Please observe local rules for Drone flying in Australia.

Brisbane City Council Officer using double standards and parking illegally
Brisbane City Council Officer Jason Vancusesen? Parked illegally and photographing and demanding to know what a private citizen is doing & claiming harrassment for being photographed. Double standards from a broke council that is selling future generations out. Almost 4 Billion in debt now they are looking at a permanent 500 million dollar loan that will never be paid back.
Another council officer that believes he can demand of others what is not expected of him. Happy to claim Harrassment by a member of public that is using a recording device yet does the same himself whilst parking illegally.
Brisbane City Council seems out of control & continually stamping of Brisbane Citizens freedoms.
Election in 2020.
Graeme Quirk & his deputy Adrian Schrinner seem to have done a great job getting us another few billion in debt.
Elected to Chandler ward as Councillor in 2005 then in 2008 Adrian Schrinner was appointed Chairman of the Finance and Administration Committee. A man with a Bachelor for Arts. Maybe part of the reason Brisbane council debt has exploded under his and Lord Mayor Graeme Quirks tenure.
Career politicians increasing our debt and having their wages increased beyond C.P.I & normal workers.
Where is the justice? Are these people even qualified to manage our Council? Their track record debt & infrastructure problems suggest not.
Adrian Schrinner's greatest political idea seems to be to make cycle helmets voluntary despite Medical Boards & experts disagreeing. Even Seinfeld had a great thing to say about helmets.
