Celebrating the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail
It’s taken 11 years since the project was first announced, but the opening of the 30 kilometre stretch between Toogoolawah and Moore combined with the renovation of the Lockyer Creek Bridge finally completes the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail – a full 161km in length from Ipswich in the south to Yarraman at the northern end of the trail, making it the longest rail trail in Australia.

Brisbane Valley Rail trail Wulkuraka To Coominya On The MTB 88.4K's
Great day out on the mountain bikes riding the Brisbane valley rail trail from Wulkuraka to Coominya. It's a pretty flat ride but you will need a well-maintained bike with good front suspension.

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail - Fernvale to Ipswich
The Brisbane Valley Rail Trail, or BVRT, is a recreational trail that traces the old Brisbane Valley rail line that commenced at Wulkuraka, near Ipswich, and continued to Yarraman, west of Kilcoy.
The 20km Ipswich to Fernvale (or vice versa) section of the BVRT is perfect for a fun family adventure as you traverse through farmland, forest and picturesque rural settings along this off-road, traffic-free trail.
Bundy To Brisbane Pt 3 Esk To Brisbane
Part 3 is the final installment of my Bundaberg to Brisbane adventure. Traveling south from Esk and continuing my way through the picturesque Brisbane Valley to Wulkuraka west of Ipswich.
After leaving Esk I had two short day rides to complete my trip, and my end to end of the Brisbane valley Rail Trail.
Could it be really coming to an end,? Unfortunately yes.
I hope you enjoy...

Bikepacking to Brisbane Day 1
I had the chance to have some time off work, So take it while I can, I say.
I decided that seeing I had over a week off I would take the chance to retrace my steps from 18 months ago, re-doing the South Burnett & Brisbane Valley Rail Trails.
There were sections that hadn't been completed when I rode these last time, so it was not just a re-do, but a new adventure all together. So throwing together a cheap budget bike packing set up, and setting out on the Cube Attention SL, I thought this time I'd go light.
Leaving Kilkivan late, around lunch time, the heat of the Queensland summer had already started to fry the earth. So I bit the stick between my teeth and pedalled on.
This first section is one I hadn't ridden before. Not knowing what to expect was exciting as the trip itself.
What follows is the beginning of 6 glorious days of bike packing solitude and fun. This was the first trip I had been on since November 2017, so man O man was I looking forward to it.

Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Bike Ride - Esk to Fernvale June 2016
Fifty-six cyclists aged from 12 years to 80 years old participated in Stage 3 of ‘The Real 160 km Brisbane Valley Rail Trail End-to-End Bike Ride’ from Esk to Fernvale organised by the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail Users Group, including a morning tea stop at the historic Bellevue Homestead in Coominya for $10 and a cheese tasting at Gerber Farms in Clarendon for a donation to Drought Angels.
This was the entirely unsolicited feed-back about the ride from Emily Rotta from Logan Cycling Club on Facebook – I think it speaks for itself:
“What an awesome weekend for some off road fun for two Logan Cycling Club members. How lucky we were to have the ‘Passion for the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail’ crew give us a guided tour of the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail (BVRT) . Such an amazing diverse group of keen cycling enthusiasts. The adventure group, riding various bicycles from single speed steelies to fat boys, explored the Esk to Fernvale (46 kms) section passing through some very scenic parts of Queensland. We stopped in Coominya at Bellevue Homestead and Vineyard for some good old country hospitality and morning tea to help us on our way for the next 25km adventure down the Rail Trail.
We passed through some beautiful farm lands and heritage listed old wooden railway bridges. Next we stopped into a local dairy farmer at Clarendon Station Road for a cheese tasting. The event also raised some much needed funds for the Drought Angels, to help support our farmers out west who are struggling.
Our final leg into Fernvale passed by some breath taking views of the Brisbane River. How privileged we are to be cycling in Somerset, Qld. All that is missing of this 160 km Brisbane Valley Rail Trail adventure is two vital sections, from Wulkuraka Station in Ipswich to Wanora (15 km) and from Toogoolawah to Moore (30 km) in Somerset. So please let’s all support this community trail adventure by continuing to raise awareness.”
