British Tanks in the Russian Civil War and their Influence on WW2
The British sent Mark V and Whippet tanks to the Whites during the Russian Civil War. This had a major influence not necessarily on the Civil War, but likely on World History and especially on the Second World War.

RUSSIA AT WAR: Russian WWII-era TROOPS MARCHED onto RED SQUARE : Troops re-enact 1941 PARADE
RUSSIA AT WAR:
Russian WWII-era TROOPS MARCHED onto RED SQUARE :
Troops re-enact Legendary 1941 PARADE
Location: Moscow, Russia
November 07, 2012
-Video from RIA Novosti
(Видео с Российское агентство международных новостей)
Russian troops marched onto Red Square on Wednesday, in a re-enactment of the historic 1941 parade.
Soldiers dressed in uniforms going back to the times of the 1812 war with France marched first, followed by troops in 1941 Red Army uniforms, accompanied by WWII-era military hardware.
Several WWII veterans who were at the original parade were present at this year's re-enactment.
The parade of November 7, 1941 took place on the anniversary of the Bolshevik revolution, and went ahead despite the growing threat of the Nazi German forces closing in on Moscow.
Red Army soldiers marched across Red Square right before departing for the front. The parade was seen as an inspirational moment for the troops, boosting the moral of the nation.

*****
7th of November 1941:
During the legendary parade on the 7th of November 1941, new tanks clattered into Red Square straight from the railway station and soldiers marched diligently. From the parade they went straight to the frontline which was only a few kilometres away from Moscow. That was the beginning of the counter-attack which stunned the enemy.
The Nazi troops had planned to conquer Moscow by that time. A huge number of orders and medals had been sent from Berlin. The Wehrmacht soldiers wrote home that they would soon take warm quarters. The generals observed the golden Kremlin domes through their binoculars. All of them were wrong in their expectations, military observer Viktor Baranets says.
Over the last few years, I managed to look through several archive documents, both government papers and personal letters. I was impressed by Soviet people's enthusiasm. They were removed from trenches and dugouts in the frontline and sent to Red Square. Just imagine what it cost our tank crews to perform faultlessly in that bitter frost. The army demonstrated all it had at its disposal then. By and large, that parade in Red Square became a powerful moral incentive which helped the Soviet Army to turn the Nazis away from Moscow. The country lives on and marks its festivals. The Kremlin is intact and we are a powerful state. That event can undoubtedly be called historic.
Tank battalions arrived at the parade from Arkhangelsk. The Chelyabinsk factory in the Ural Mountains also sent dozens of new heavy tanks. Those formidable combat vehicles were not fully equipped. The mechanics were given starters and mounted them on only when the tanks were on the train on the way to Moscow. All in all, about 30,000 servicemen and members of the people's volunteer corps took part in the parade, Viktor Baranets says.
I studied a lot of German archive documents, letters and official decrees. The news about the parade thoroughly depressed Hitler. The Nazis realized that Moscow was not suffocated, the Soviet Army ranks were unbroken and the soldiers even marched at parades. All this had a demoralising effect on the Nazi troops. One of the Nazi archive documents contains Goebbels' instruction to strictly forbid circulating any information about the parade among the German troops.
A lot of foreign journalists attended that parade in Red Square and the news about the parade reached every corner of the world. On that day, the conductor of the military band was Vasili Agapkin, the author of the famous Russian patriotic march A Slavic Woman's Farewell. When the parade was over he could not step down from the platform on which he was standing because his boots had frozen to it. He could not say a word either because his lips were cold and would not move. The musicians ran up to him, lifted him from the platform and helped him into the GUM building. The Red Army inspired by the parade delivered devastating blows on the enemy at the approaches to Mozhaisk, Volokolamsk and Maloyaroslavets.
Fifty seven participants in that parade live in Moscow today.

75th anniversary of the lifting of the Siege of Leningrad
The Siege of Leningrad was one of the most brutal, painful and dramatic chapters of World War II, and saw Russia's second-largest city hold out against Nazi forces for 2 years, 4 months, 2 weeks and 5 days, at the cost of over 350,000 military and nearly 650,000 civilian lives.
The city of Leningrad was of crucial importance during the Second World War. A major industrial and logistical hub, the city was the base of the Soviet Baltic Fleet, and, just as significantly at the time, carried the name of the USSR's founder, Vladimir Lenin. Its capture would mark a significant blow to Soviet morale, and enable the Wehrmacht to establish an uninterrupted supply route for Army Group North.
The Nazis' inability to break through into the city meant that considerable German forces were tied up and made unavailable for operations elsewhere. The city's resistance also ultimately made it impossible for the Nazis to seize the Arctic ports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk, thus allowing US, British and Canadian Arctic convoys to continue providing much-needed wartime aid to the USSR.
Facing stiff resistance as they approached Leningrad in 1941, the Wehrmacht changed tack, encircling the city and hoping to starve and bomb it into submission. On capture, Wehrmacht high command was instructed to drive any surviving residents out and wipe Leningrad from the face of the earth.
For the next 900 days, the blockaded city would continue to hold out, facing drastic shortages of just about everything, including food, ammunition, and fuel, with this topped off by regular artillery shelling and aerial bombardment by the Luftwaffe. To the west of the city, between January 1942 and May 1943, the Red Army waged a bloody battle to hold on to the left bank of the Neva River, with up to 200,000 Soviet troops and 160,000 German troops killed on a strip of land measuring just 3 square km.
The stories of mass heroism and personal sacrifice in Leningrad are too many to recount, and include legends of lorry drivers continuing to make the journey across Lake Ladoga to bring supplies into the city and evacuate civilians under melting ice and constant Luftwaffe bombardment, famished factory workers (including children) working day and night to build weapons and munitions, and art historians working tirelessly to save the city's priceless art treasures and monuments from destruction.
An estimated 649,000 civilians from the city's pre-war population of 3.1 million died in the siege, the vast majority of them from starvation. Over 1.7 million residents, including 400,000 children, were evacuated during the war. An estimated 356,400 Red Army soldiers were also killed. For its resistance, Leningrad appropriately became the first city to be bestowed the title of Hero City in 1945.

American Red Cross Captain Wynn and US Army Captain Hall, raise flags over Red cross hospital in Archangel
Activities of Red Cross and US Army personnel in Archangel, Russia, during the Allied North Russian Intervention of World War 1. American soldiers of the American North Russia Expeditionary Force hold a brief ceremony. Russian sisters (nuns) stand outside their Red Cross hospital on Troitsky Avenue, near Olga barracks, in Archangel, as Captain Wynn of the American Red Cross, and US Army Captain Hall, raise Red Cross and American flags over it. Thus it becomes the first Red Cross Hospital in Archangel, jointly staffed with Russian and American Red Cross nurses. Brief view of the Army band marching back after the ceremony. They are watched by Russians on the sidewalks. (Note: Captain Wynn and the American Red Cross went on to equip the hospital, and American Army Captain Hall and Lieutenant Kiley were placed in charge of it. British medical authorities had resisted having Americans start their own hospital in Archangel. So this American flag-raising event constituted an act of defiance.) (World War I; World War 1; WWI; WW1) Location: Archangel Russia. Date: September 10, 1918.

Die Frontschau No 7 Attack by Infantry and Tanks Against a Village 1941 German Eastern Front Footage
German training/propaganda? film from 1941 showing an attack against a presumably Russian village somewhere along the eastern front during WW2. Intended to show soldiers' life at the front and how they deployed and used a variety of weapons in battle, this appears to be a compilation piece with clips from various engagements.
The title of the series, Die Frontschau translates literally as, The Frontshow or The Frontview depending on which translating site you use.
I don't speak German, and using Google to translate the introduction doesn't work very well so here is a summary of what the introduction says:
Prepared for the education of [the Reserve Army] by [Army Movie Office?] produced from film reports of propaganda units and captured enemy filming.
It goes on to say that the pictures give a real impression of the battle and the life of the soldiers at the front. Additionally the viewer should compliment their training by viewing the behavior of the field soldiers paying particular attention to his momentum, persistence and tenacity as well as the military use and performance of the weapons.
Also please be advised that I have no idea what the narrator is saying throughout the video so I want to be clear that in no way do I endorse or support Nazi Germany or what it stood for. I posted this to give you another look at World War Two that many of you may not have seen before, and left the audio in for the benefit of those viewers who do speak German so they will have a better idea of what is happening in the video.
The original German title for this film is, Angriff von Infanterie und Panzern gegen eine Ortschaft. Depending on which translator you use, the word Panzern translates as either tanks or armor.
Public domain footage.
