Summer Day Trip - Brno Dam & Boating
#inhomeandout
Brno Dam is a water work on the Svratka River. At present, it is a popular place for sports activities, recreation and relaxation.Boating will be there in during the summer season.
It has an area of 250 hectares and was built between 1936 and 1940. It used to serve as a water reservoir and as a source of electricity. Lined with vast forests on both sides, it offers opportunities not only for swimming and water sports, but also for hiking and cycling. In winter, the frozen water surface becomes a popular place for skaters and cross-country skiers.
A frequent destination for hikers is the Veveří Castle, which rises on a rock above the dam. Another attraction is the Brno Zoo is located near the dam.
The most important local events include the annual fireworks show held at the Ignis Brunensis festival at the turn of May and June. Pyrotechnics is fired from a pontoon placed on the water surface.

Brno, Czech Republic 2018 (Брно, Чехия)
Brno is the second largest city in the Czech Republic by population and area, the largest Moravian city, and the historical capital city of the Margraviate of Moravia. Brno is the administrative center of the South Moravian Region in which it forms a separate district (Brno-City District). The city lies at the confluence of the Svitava and Svratka rivers and has about 400,000 inhabitants; its greater metropolitan area is home to more than 800,000 people while its larger urban zone had a population of about 730,000 in 2004.
The most visited sights of the city include the Špilberk castle and fortress and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul on Petrov hill, two medieval buildings that dominate the cityscape and are often depicted as its traditional symbols. The other large preserved castle near the city is Veveří Castle by Brno Reservoir. This castle is the site of a number of legends, as are many other places in Brno. Another architectural monument of Brno is the functionalist Villa Tugendhat which has been included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. One of the natural sights nearby is the Moravian Karst.

FLYING above BRNO Czech Republic in 4K ! ???????? ????
Ever wondered what Brno (in Czech Republic) is like from the air? In this vlog, i got to experience exactly that by taking a sight seeing 20 minute flight in a Cessna 172N Skyhawk. If you are coming as a tourist or live in Brno, this will give a rare experience which not a lot of the locals have even tried.
I invite you to join along and please leave a LIKE, COMMENT, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE to see more exciting future videos i have planned.
We took off from the local airport Mezinárodní letiště Brno Tuřany and headed towards the City Center. Our first area to view was Bystřička přehrada Bystric Dam. Some of you may remember it from the previous vlog if not, Check it out here -
From there, we moved on to see the highest point in Brno city center which is Spilberk Castle. Here you get to see how HUGE it really is and what an architectural Marvel. You get to understand how it helped defend against Swedish raids in 1600s.
We then immediately move to the main city center where you catch a glimpse of Namesti Svobody (Freedom Square) and Petrov Cathedral (Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul).
If you want to catch a similar flight, check out the guys at or Slevomat and book your self a flight. It is certainly worth the experience.
After a few days of thinking about it, i think i would do such an experience again.

The tourist hot spots we cover in this vlog are;
Denis Gardens (Denisovy sady) -
This park is a tribute to the French historian Ernest Denis who played a major role in the establishment of the Czechoslovak state in 1918. The park features a colonnade with a fountain and an 1818 obelisk to commemorate the end of the Napoleonic Wars. You will be getting a view of Spilberk castle from here.
Cathedral of St Peter and Paul -
This cathedral is located on the Petrov hill in the centre of Brno. It is a national cultural monument and one of the most important pieces of architecture in South Moravia. The interior is mostly Baroque in style, while the impressive 84-metre-high towers were constructed to the Gothic Revival designs of the architect August Kirstein in 1904–5 .
You can climb the towers to get a view from both sides of the castle for just 40kc (2 Euro).
Cabbage Market (Zelný trh) -
This market is situated in the middle of the historical city centre. It was established in the 13th century and there used to be shoe-makers, iron and hardware goods, meat and bread shops sold here. Now you can still buy fruit, vegetables and flowers in summer time and there is stalls during holiday period selling different items.
There is an underground labyrinth you can explore with medieval cellars, wine cellars and more.
Capuchin Crypt -
Here you will find some exposed mummified monks which we decided not to record. If you are daring, you can visit.
Ossuary at the Church of St James (Kostnice u sv. Jakuba) -
After Paris, Brno has the second-largest ossuary in Europe. The number of people buried here is estimated to exceed 50,000. You can enter and get to see for your self!
Brno Dam (Brněnská přehrada) -
One of our all time favourite areas especially in summer. This large dam is beautiful to see and you can ride on the boats during the summer season. People go for running, bike riding, bbqs, family activities or picnics here. Don't miss out visiting here.
Brno Observatory and Planetarium (Hvězdárna a planetárium Brno ) -
The planetarium provides visitors and kids to have fun with an opportunity to observe the starry sky, watch audiovisual 2d / 3d programs in the planetarium, and attend interactive performances. There is some mighty telescopes and a calendar full of exciting things to do.
Freedom Square (Náměstí Svobody) -
This is the heart of Brno. All big events of the city like welcoming the New Year, Christmas markets and more take place here. If you seek some entertainment, you can find various kinds of restaurants, nightclubs and discos just around the square. There is also a black granite clock which is the joke of the city due to its shape. It releases a marble everyday on one of the 4 corners at 11am. So make sure to arrive early to try your luck!.

Brno Travel Guide - Czech Republic Memorable Moments
Brno Travel Guide - Czech Republic Memorable Moments
Brno (German: Brünn, Moravian dialect: Štatl) is the second largest city in the Czech Republic and the largest city in the historical Moravian region. Founded around the year 1000, Brno is located in a beautiful natural environment between South Moravian vineyards and the Moravian Karst, and is an easy drive to the nearby Austrian border.
Brno was founded about a thousand years ago, receiving city status in 1243. Surviving sieges from the Hussites in 1428 and 1430, the city also successfully defended itself from Swedish armies during the Thirty Years' War. With the original capital of Olomouc falling into Swedish hands in 1641, Brno became the seat of administration for the Margraviate of Moravia (a borderland region of the Austrian Empire), which stayed long after the war's end. The city flourished during the 19th century as it rapidly industrialized and its population exploded. Brno would later serve as the capital of the semi-autonomous Moravian Land in the First Republic of Czechoslovakia. After surviving World War II intact, the newly-installed Communist Party abolished Moravia's autonomous status to subdivide the country into regions (kraj) in 1949, ending Brno's high political prominence. Contemporary Brno is a mixture of different architectural styles, ranging from the Gothic, Baroque, Art Noveau, and Socialist. Arguably the Czech Republic's second most important cultural centre that often competes with Prague in prestige, Brno has the second largest historic preservation zone in the country (the largest in Prague, the third in nearby Olomouc). Three castles are located in the immediate proximity of the city: Špilberk (a former royal castle for the rulers of Moravia dating to the 13th century, and later an Austrian military bastion), Veveří Castle (near Brno Lake), and Líšeň Castle (to the city's east).
Unlike Prague, Brno has yet to be discovered by mass tourism, meaning that prices and crowds are both minimal and manageable. Low budget accommodation is relatively expensive, due to lack of competition. Brno is the undoubted cultural hub of Moravia, home to a number of notable Moravian institutions, e.g. Moravian Gallery, Moravian Museum, National Theatre Brno, Brno City Theatre, etc. It is a city with a long tradition in motor racing (on the Masaryk Circuit), huge exhibitions and trade fairs (in the Central European Exhibition Center), and as a vibrant university city. With 89,000 university students in a city of 380,000, Brno is the Czech Republic's largest student city by percentage of population. Since 1998, an international firework competition, the Ignis Brunensis, has been held annually every year at the turn of May and June, drawing over 100 to 200,000 visitors a year.
The most interesting places in Brno are the Brno Underground, a labyrinth of cellars including the second biggest ossuary in Europe (after the Catacombs of Paris), the city's three sounding castles, the iconic St. Peter and Paul Cathedral atop Petrov hill, the Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady in the Old Brno District, St. Jacob's Church, the Moravian Museum, Lužánky Park (the oldest public park in the country), Denis Gardens, and various historical squares, churches, and palaces.
There are also other places outside the city centre worth visiting, e.g. the old Jewish cemetery in Brno-Židenice (the biggest one in Moravia), or the Marian Valley in Brno-Líšeň, a cascade of lakes between forested hills. From the north, Brno is surrounded by hills and very pleasant nature, probably the most notable place is the Moravian Karst.
