Paimpont is situated in central Brittany, about 40 kilometres west of Rennes and a 2hour drive from Nantes, surrounded by the Paimpont Forest, which is part of the Forest of Broceliande - the last remaining part of the ancient forests that once covered Brittany.
Because of the age of the forest it has become associated with various legends including the claim that it was the home of King Arthur and the wizard Merlin. Several marked paths lead through the forest, to places with exotic names such as 'Merlin's Tomb', 'Merlin's spring' and the 'Valley of no Return' (where Merlin's sister trapped unfaithful young men, and the last place that Merlin himself was seen). If you search hard you could also perhaps find the 'fountain of eternal youth'.
Great place to add to your trip if your in Brittany or Near Nantes.

TRAVEL BRITTANY: BROCELIANDE FOREST - Arthurian Myth
We took a journey to Broceliande forest in Brittany to explore Arthurian myths and legends for ourselves. There were some incredible discoveries on this adventure. You can join us as we visit the Tomb of Merlin, the Fountain of Youth, messages to the fairies, dragon tracks, and even a Round Table. You'll meet the Entwife of Broceliande, a thousand year old tree. Then you'll explore the Valley of No Return, the Tree of Gold and learn about the horrific battle between the fairies who turned the ground red with blood. Finally, we'll visit the House and Garden of Viviane who imprisoned Merlin.
