Fly Fishing Small Lakes in Whistler, Squamish and Pemberton British Columbia Canada
The month of May is when the Big boys come out to Play. This is true when you are talking about stillwater fly fishing in British Columbia, Canada. The lakes have all turned and sit in that fishy temperature between 50°f - 60°f. As the days grow in length the lakes receive more surface activity in the way of hatches. Mayfly, Damsel fly and Black Gnat hatches drift across the local lakes like gun smoke.
It is best to divide the month into three distinct portions: the first is in early May when there will be the Hawthorn hatch. The Second, somewhere in the middle of the month after you have received 4 consecutive days of 20°c+ brings on the Flying Black Ants. The third is later in the month when the Mayfly is on. Throughout the rest of the month of May I have made a list of prolific hatches in British Columbia.
Prolific British Columbia Hatches in the Month of May
Mayfly
Flying Black Ant
Damsel fly
Dragonfly

this lake was SO warm! | Whyte Lake Hike in West Vancouver
We tried out another transit-accessible hike near Vancouver, this time it featured a really nice lake to swim in.
After a bus ride from downtown to West Vancouver, we walk a bit to the start of the trailhead. It was quite a pleasant and manageable hike and we were at the lake before we knew it.
The lake itself features a dock type structure which is perfect for swimming and getting into and out of the (relatively) warm water.
