Broken Bridge in Chennai
Adayar Broken Bridge, as the name suggests it’s a broken bridge which was originally built in the year 1967. This bridge was constructed for the benefit of fishermen to cross the Adayar River from Santhome Beach to Elliot’s Beach. It is constructed almost near the Adayar River’s end where it meet the ocean. Due to strong river current at this place, this bridge was damaged and broken in the year 1977 and it’s been left unrepaired from that time.
Over the years, the bridge was destroyed further and has become a deserted place due to poor maintenance of both the bridge and the road it connects with the city. It is worth to note that, this place is said to be haunted and the villagers there have many haunting stories about this place.
The location of this bridge is very scenic because we can see the sandy beach and the river at one place. Due to its picturesque location, it has become one of the famous movie shooting spot and you can spot lot of youngsters doing photo shoot and making short films.

A Bridge going no where - does make for a beautiful landscape add to it an adjoining seashore and a beach for miles.
This place lies between Theosophical Society Adyar near the Elliot's beach located on the Adyar river, this collapsed bridge (1977) makes for one rugged nature place off the beaten track. Its a bit secluded, also lists on the haunted and spooky places in Chennai. Having said that the sunsets and sunrises are spectacular here, you will find this place inhibited by youngsters and couples make a bee line quite obviously too. Having no light, this place is out of bound after sunset. Picture perfect nature at its best, no wonder this place has been featured in lots of movies and shootings taking place over here is a natural norm. A place for nature lovers those who like to do off beat things more than the normal touristy feel.
p.s. do not visit this place after sunset, it isn't safe, no lights and pretty secluded.

Widening of bridge over Adyar river to ease traffic in Chennai
The widening of bridge on the Adyar river at Manapakkam by Chennai highways department will turn it from the present four-lane to a six-lane stretch. The 135m-long bridge will also have a 2m-wide pathway for pedestrians. The project includes structural additions to keep the bridge stable under a heavier load. Another addition to the bridge are new streetlights and median. The expansion of the bridge, at a cost of Rs 13 crore, is likely to be completed by mid-January
