Tasmania is an incredible part of Australia. The first couple of days spent here we explored the town of Hobart then drove up the east coast to Coles bay. Here is a list of everything we did:

We had a very pleasant day doing the Peppermint Bay Cruise on Peppermint Bay 2 from Hobart's Brooke Street Pier down to Peppermint Bay where we met up with our good friends John & Hele Ray from Birches Bay. After a very pleasant chat and lunch with the Rays it was time to return to Hobart. Our Captain gave us a very informative commentary for the duration of the trip and the deck staff were extremely accommodating. Thanks Peppermint Bay Cruises we thoroughly enjoyed our day on the Derwent and hope to do this trip again. We would recommend this trip to anyone for a very pleasant days outing.
Running Through Hobart
On my recent trip to Australia I had the chance to visit Tasmania for a week. Hobart, the capital of Tasmania is a scenic city built along the shores of the Derwent River. Come along with me on a run through Hobart.

A live performance from the MONA FOMA Festival in Hobart, Australia, January 2016. The music is improvised along basic themes that I use. I played in the intense summer sun inside a glass terminal. It was like being in a car in the sun with the windows rolled up. An interesting experience that I am thankful to have survived.
Due to the situation, I had to quickly set up my gear after the previous band. I tried to find a place to set the video camera up that was out in the audience, yet wouldn't get bumped or knocked over. Unfortunately, it appeared to have been moved a bit from how I set it, so that the focus is higher than I would like, making it impossible to see what I was doing with the Gongs & Bells on the floor. But you can hear the music and imagine what was happening.
As it was an active public ferry terminal, people moved about and there is often much background noise and chatter. This made it all the more challenging to stay focused while performing. That, combined with the heat, made it even more of a challenge. But as a musician, this is all part of being an active performer. And in the end, at least for me, it's all about the music, which looking back I'm quite pleased with.
As an artist, I'm always moving forward, so until I watched this video today, I hadn't realized/remembered what I played back then nearly 7 months ago. In reflection, much of what I played here became the genesis of my 'Stories We Tell Ourselves' album ( In fact, the whole MONA FOMA experience was a watershed moment for me. I hope you find it as interesting as I did when creating it. ~ MB

Hobart Travel Guide - Australia Amazing Adventure
Hobart is the capital city of the Australian state of Tasmania. Hobart is small and intimate compared to larger mainland Australian cities, reflecting the small size of the state. The metropolitan area stretches north and south along the Derwent River, crossed by several bridges. Notable for being one of the coldest Australian cities, it has a mild temperate oceanic climate, with four distinct seasons.
Founded in 1804 by Colonel David Collins, Hobart is the second oldest city in Australia. It grew out of the penal settlement on the island at Risdon Cove, eight kilometres up river, which was founded in 1803 and abandoned five months later for the present site of Hobart. The city has many beautiful historic buildings and precincts, especially in the area around the river. There are many fine examples of Georgian and Victorian architecture, such as Salamanca Place, which has a terrace of warehouses dating back to the whaling days of the 1830s. Nearby Battery Point, the original seamen's quarters of the city and Macquarie and Davey Street offer more than 60 buildings classified by the National Trust.
Hobart is a harbour town – a port city where the world rushes in on the tide and ebbs away again, bringing with it influences from afar and leaving the locals buzzing with global zeitgeist. Or so the theory goes. These days, Hobart’s waterfront precinct is certainly abuzz, with old pubs alongside new craft-beer bars, myriad cafes, museums, festivals, ferries, fishing boats, yachts, accommodation and a floating pier upholding fine restaurants…all of it washed with sea-salty charm and a sense of history. On a sunny afternoon, there are few more pleasant places to find yourself.
Riding high above the city is kunanyi/Mt Wellington, a craggy basalt beast seemingly made for mountain biking and bushwalking. Known as kunanyi by local Aboriginal people, and just 'the mountain' by everybody else, this 1271m-high monolith both defines the city below and shelters it. Drive to the summit in any season – you're assured of either a show-stopping view or an out-of-time, lunar, cloud-shrouded experience, wandering around between snowdrifts, lichen-dappled boulders and the stunted plants that somehow survive in these lofty skies. Finally, barrel back down to the waterfront on a mountain-bike tour like no other.
Hobart has a profusion of eating establishments ranging from the cheap to the luxuriously expensive. Freshly caught seafood is a specialty of the region, and there are several excellent seafood restaurants. Deep-sea Trevalla is unique to Tasmania and must be tried. Tasmanian lobster is also excellent. Scallop pie is also unique to Tasmania and can be easily purchased from the Salamanca Market food stalls. Restaurants are concentrated in the Salamanca and North Hobart areas.
There are several good options when it comes to getting around Hobart. By and far the most convenient would be having a private vehicle but biking, walking, public transit, and taxis are all good options too. The public bus system in Hobart can actually be fairly complicated. There are more than a dozen different fare types (and prices) depending on route/location, planned destination, concession types, time of day (sometimes) and more. On the plus side, schedules tend to be clearly posted, buses tend to be on time, staff is generally very patient, friendly, and helpful, and drivers can give change, so exact coin when purchasing a ticket is not necessary.

Hari sabtu lalu, aku pergi ke Tasmania (Salah satu kota di Australia). Kota ini beda banget sama Melbourne, karena bener2 sepi dan tenang, cocok tuh buat pensiunan! Dan disini juga gak banyak yang bisa dikunjungi karena kotanya kecil makanya 14 jam di Tassie udah cukup banget.
Ini tempat2 yang kita kunjungi:
1. Wineglass Bay: Tempat ini paling terkenal di Tasmania dan keren banget kalau kalian kesini tapi hikenya ke Mt Amos (3 jam return). Kalau aku gak sempet hike lewat Mt Amos karena kita cuma sehari, jadinya hikenya ke Wineglass Bay lookout, bedanya sama Mt Amos, ini lebih deket (1.5 jam return) dan lebih rendah, gak seindah dari Mt Amos tapi worth it juga!
2. MONA Musem: Ini juga terkenal banget di Tasmania dan untuk kesana lebih puas kalau naik ferri. Sekitar 30 menit dari pelabuhannya (Brooke Street Pier)
