Brougham Hall, Brougham, Cumbria, UK - 4th September, 2013
This video features footage of Brougham Hall, which is located in the village of Brougham just outside of Penrith in the County of Cumbria, England. The oldest part of the hall is the Tudor building, which dates back to around 1500 and was once the scene of a bloody battle between the English and Scots. The film features views of the ruins of the hall, as well as some of the functional building areas, art, sculpture and the Church just outside of the Hall.
Brougham Hall
Brougham Hall, just a mile south of Penrith, Cumbria, was built in the 14th century and has a fascinating history. Rescued from dereliction in 1985, today it is one of the largest country house restoration projects in England and is home to an array of arts and craft workshops and businesses. You'll find the Hall open from dawn til dusk BUT the workshops open from around 10am, closing around 5pm.
Dogs and cyclists are most welcome.
Brougham Hall hosts regular events and makes for a perfect location for weddings and private or coporate events. Private tours are available on request. Please contact us if you would like to hire the grounds.
The hall and grounds are reportedly haunted by sounds of soldiers battling in the middle night, world war soldiers marching and various people who were employed at the property including a woman called Emily and a boy who died there. Henry Brougham who lived there in the nineteenth century was reported to be highly interested in spirituality and his spirit and that of his brother William are also said to have been felt by visitors. The hall was investigated in the Living TV series Most Haunted where the team supposedly communicated with the spirits of Emily, the boy and Henry Brougham during a seance and moved a heavy table across the room without explanation.
UKGhostnights.co.uk hold events here throughout the year.

Brougham Castle, Cumbria.
The Lake District is visited by millions for its outstanding natural beauty but there is also a wealth of history to be discovered at English Heritage and National Trust properties across the region. Brougham Castle, near Penrith, is one such place that really should be on your 'must visit' list when coming to The Lake District.
This English Heritage property lies in a picturesque setting beside the crossing of the River Eamont in Cumbria and was founded in the early 13th century. The great keep largely survives and its complex of passages and spiral stairways makes Brougham a fascinating castle to explore, as well as an ideal picnic setting for a family day out.
This is one of those magical places where you can walk in the footsteps of history, from the Scottish Wars and the visit of Edward 1 in 1300 to the 18th and 19th century visits of artists, poets and antiquarians such as J.M.W. Turner and William Wordsworth. William and his sister Dorothy explored these ruins as teenagers and their experiences are vividly recorded in The Prelude. You can share their same sense of wonder and excitement today!
This short film will hopefully persuade you to make the visit.

Brougham Hall Family Fun Day_0001.wmv
Members of the Cumbrian based historical group Tungraians welcomed visitors to the free family fun day at Brougham Hall near Penrith.
Businesses based at the 14th century house provided a wide range of activities including pot throwing at Crafty Monkeys.
Part of the Best in Eden programme of events, the family day included music workshops and entertainment provided by Blue Jam. Fusion Café in the centre of the Hall was open all day -- and the owners daughter musician Fiona Clayton performed throughout the day.
Taking centre stage was the mobile arts project from the Tate.
The Tate Movie Project, part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, is a large scale animated film project led by the Tate Gallery in collaboration with Aardman Animation, and funded by The Legacy Trust.
The new Holistic Therapy Centre at Brougham, situated above the old Ice House was ofdficially opened by two representatives of Yanwath School pupils Emily and Eleanor.
The centre is the base for 10 therapists.
Reiki therapist Lindsay Wild, a mother of four explain4d how the centre developed. She said: When I came to see the rooms at Brougham Hall I knew they were perfect for me to work from. But having four children I knew I would not be using the room all the time, and that it would be great to have several therapists sharing this wonderful space.
This fabulous setting provides a tranquil, serene and peaceful atmosphere.
And we now have a team of 10 qualified and experienced therapists offering a range of treatments including hopi candel therapy, life coaching, acupuncture, acupressure, massage, hot and cold stone therapy, Indian head and body massage, and aromatherapy facials.
And the pupils from Yanwath School where Lindsay's children attend created two murals for the centre one entitled The Road to Health by Class three and a second made from recycled material.
Lindsay said: We invited representatives of the children from the school to open the centre as part of the Family Fun Day, as they made these lovely murals for us.
