Brouwerij 't IJ (Amsterdam) • Tasty Tales
Brouwerij 't IJ and the iconic windmill are in the Top 5 Amsterdam breweries of many a beerlover. Amsterdam might have some major and well known beer producers, but craft brewery Brouwerij ’t IJ, founded in the mid-80s, was one of the first to brew well-crafted Dutch beers in Belgian style. Founder Kasper Peterson, a Dutch musician who wrote a few chart-topping songs, started the brewery in 1985 in a former municipal bath house. The tasting room and a few of the brew rooms are still located here, right next to the windmill.

Brouwerij 't IJ Ijwit Witbier Dutch Craft Beer Review in Amsterdam, Netherlands - 4K UHD
BROUWERIJ T' IJ IJWIT WITBIER
A full-bodied, Amsterdam wheat beer that is dangerously ‘moreish’. Slightly cloudy, it has a beautiful golden colour and a soft, foamy head. When we brew IJwit, we use wheat malt as well as barley malt, which is also how the beer gets its name.
The wheat malt gives the beer a delightful, fresh flavour, and the addition of coriander and lemon during the brewing process produces a rich aroma of banana, citrus and spices. Topped off by a fine, slightly sweet aftertaste, IJwit is a delicious thirst-quencher.
Alcohol percentage: 6,5%
Drinking temperature: 6 – 8 graden

Brouwerij 't IJ Zatte Tripel Ale Beer Review - Amsterdam, Netherlands in 4K UHD
Welcome to another international edition of the Taste Tour everyone - thanks for joining in! This video is us again in Amsterdam, Netherlands - this time around we're trying out a local brew, from right in the city as listed below:
BROUWERIJ 'T IJ ZATTE TRIPEL
This was the first beer to come out of our vats, back in 1985, making it the Brouwerij ‘t IJ classic beer. It is a ‘tripel’, the category reserved for the stronger blonde beers crafted in the Belgian tradition, and Zatte more than lives up to expectations. It’s a full-bodied, golden beer with a scent of fresh fruit mingled here and there with a hint of grain. The flavour is slightly sweet, ending with a fine, dry aftertaste. A delicious classic to be enjoyed in all seasons.
Organic
Alcohol percentage: 8%
Drinking temperature: 8 – 10 degrees Celsius

Brouwerij 't IJ Natte Dubbel Dutch Ale Beer Review in Amsterdam, Netherlands - 4K UHD
Welcome again to the Taste Tour International everyone! This time up - back in Amsterdam again, the city of canals and tulips and...well, many other varieties of fun as well! For this video, we're trying out a local brew from the Brouwerij t' IJ brewery out of the Dam - this is their Natte Dubbel, their original brew, inspired by the Belgian classic! Their website description states:
BROUWERIJ T' IJ NATTE DUBBEL
After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.
Organic
Alcohol percentage: 6,5%
Drinking temperature: 8-10 C

Microbreweries and craft beers in Amsterdam
In Amsterdam, there is beer and beer. Canals and canals. Beer, canals, canals, beer, canals and even windmills.
Brouwerij t Ij.: The oldest. The most famous. The hardest to pronounce and the easiest to find in a bar in Amsterdam. More, more, more. After coming back from a tour in the south of the Netherlands, Kaspar Peterson, member of the band Drukerwk, decided to brew a beer inspired by the surrounding Belgian beers. The brewery produces a classic beer, and rather strong, declined in different types: lager, dark, amber, IPA… To add to its charm, the historic brewery is located under one of the most beautiful and biggest windmill close to the city centre in East Amsterdam. There is a big outdoor terrace to enjoy the nice weather. The brewery organises tours.
In the same area, 5 mn by bike, Homeland is one of the most unusual place in Amsterdam. It is a hotel, a bar, a cafe and a microbrewery rolled into one, in an old building of the shipyard. Its 60s decor is unique. Panelled walls, massive plants, colours, patterns and period artefacts. It is spacious, bright and full of excitement. The terrace overlooks the water on one side, and the park on the other. People come here to enjoy a relaxing swim. Homeland hosts a beer festival in September. On the menu: music, beer of course, and street food.
Let’s cross the Ij, this inlet, this lake, this river towards the North. Oedipus is the funkiest and the most colourful microbrewery in Amsterdam. It started with a group of friends. A festival, beers brewed especially for this occasion, soon selling faster than bread. The goal of Oedipus is to brew unique and pleasing beers for everyone to enjoy. There are flavours of grapefruit, passion fruit. Beers with lemongrass, chilli, lime and coriander. Strong and lighter beers. Sweeter, smoother and tangier beers. Inside the brewery, colours, plants, good mood, industrial design because it is an industrial place. Basically a good reason to go to North Amsterdam. The tasting room is open from Thursdays to Sundays. On the other days, you will find their beers in many bars in Amsterdam.
Troost is a microbrewery, a gin distillery and a lemonade producer. Several locations in Amsterdam: In Pjip in the South, in the old industrial zone next to Westerpark in the West, and some also in the East. A beautiful location, good beers. My favourite are New England IPA and Ozzie Pale Ale. Refreshing and perfect on a beautiful sunny day. You can eat here and tours are organised to learn about the brewing process.
Butchers Tears is the microbrewery the furthest away from the centre of Amsterdam. It is easier to get there by bike, even if there are some buses too. At the end of a small street in an industrial zone, you will find a tap room made out of white tiles. Some sketches on the walls and beer taps. Outside, some room on a car park, wooden chairs and benches. It’s rather minimalistic and it may not sound very appealing. But the beers are very good, maybe even the best in Amsterdam. The music playlist is spot on and the service very friendly. If you like a good beer off the beaten path. 20 minutes from Dam Market Square by bike.
Cafe de Prael is in the Red light district, so it is the most central microbrewery in Amsterdam. Some tables outside and on 2 levels. It is rather dark, perfect for a date or to meet with friends for a local brew. Less perfect if you want to film inside. Good beers with Belgian, German and British influence. it is a community led entreprise and also the place of the first breweries in Amsterdam around 1400.

Beer - Amsterdam
If in the UK there's the 5 o'clock tea, here in Amsterdam there's the 5 o'clock beer! Well, no surprise Netherlands is the world's largest exporter of beer. My friend Joren brought me to the paradise of beers, where I got to taste some amazing artisanal Dutch beers. Thank God I didn’t have to drive afterwards

Places we visited (in order of appearance):
'De Vier Pilaren' – for poffertjes, an amazing little threat!
Winkel 43 – Noordermarkt / Noordermarket for their amazing apple pie! It's delicious.
Goudse Stroopwafels – Albert Cuypmarkt. You can get stroopwafels all over town, also in all supermarkets. But the best ones you buy at the market.
Puccini Bomboni – there are multiple shops through town. They sell amazing chocolates, different from what you're used to.
Van Stapele – only one kind of cookie, but what they do, they do well! Especially the white chocolate center is amazing. Just a little piece of heaven.
Pappabubble – not as typically Dutch as the rest, but really cool sugar entertainment! And the flavors of these little sugary friends is also very good. They have ones with, and without atrificial coloring, very nice!
De Pindakaaswinkel – just opened recently, but popular by all who love peanutbutter. They come with amazing and surprising flavors. It's out of the center, but in the amazing area of Amsterdam East. Well, almost there ;) After visiting Brouwerij 't IJ you just walk here!
HEMA Tompoezen – My childhood favorite. I'm not talking about it, you just get your ass here and buy one!
