BROWNVILLE PARK CAMPGROUND :)
This is a very nice campground in arcadia, Florida on the peace river. The peace river is known for fossil hunting and it is very true :) soon after we arrived to the campground we went to the river with a shovel and a colander and after two scoops found a shark tooth. We definitely will be back and will film the fossil hunting at the campground. If you go definitely take water shoes or old sneakers because there is a lot of gravel in the river which is where you need to dig for the fossils. The campground has 12 sites with electric and water. They have a dump station located next to the bathrooms. There are no laundry facilities at the campground . We were only there one night and on the second day we went on a canoe trip so we didn't get as detailed as we would like. We did however make a slide show showing all 12 of the sites with electric and water which we will post soon. You do need reservations but you can not request a specific site. We hope you find this video helpful :) Thanks for watching please don't forget to share like and subscribe.
Brownville Park Arcadia Florida Fossil Hunting

Our latest adventure takes us to Brownville Park located in Arcadia, Florida. We were on a mission to find fossils and it didn't take long to score big time!
BROWNVILLE PARK CAMPGROUND SLIDE SHOW
We hope you find this video/slideshow helpful if you are looking to go to the peace river to fossil hunt :) We took pictures of all of the site which have electric and water available which are 1 -12 and we also took some pictures which will hopefully help :) This is a great campground to fossil hunt just make sure the water level is at least 12 below normal you can check the canoe outpost (arcadia) for the current water level on the peace river. It is not necessary to have a canoe to fossil hunt here, simply go down to the water get a shovel and start sifting :) We recommend bringing water shoes or old sneakers because there is a lot of gravel and it will be rough on your feet. there are some sandy areas but the fossils are generally in the gravel areas. We hope this was helpful. Please don't forget to share, like and subscribe ;) best time to fossil hunt is usually spring. Don't forget sunblock ;)
Inside McDonald's - Arcadia, Florida
McDonald's predominantly sells hamburgers, various types of chicken, chicken sandwiches, French fries, soft drinks, breakfast items, and desserts. In most markets, McDonald's offers salads and vegetarian items, wraps and other localized fare. On a seasonal basis, McDonald's offers the McRib sandwich. Some speculate the seasonality of the McRib adds to its appeal.[16] Various countries, especially in Asia, are currently serving soup. This local deviation from the standard menu is a characteristic for which the chain is particularly known, and one which is employed either to abide by regional food taboos (such as the religious prohibition of beef consumption in India) or to make available foods with which the regional market is more familiar (such as the sale of McRice in Indonesia, or Ebi (prawn) Burger in Singapore). In Germany and other Western European countries, McDonald's sells beer. In New Zealand, McDonald's sells meat pies, after the local affiliate partially relaunched the Georgie Pie fast food chain it bought out in 1996. In the United States, after limited regional trials, McDonald's plans to offer breakfast at all hours restarants are open. Eggs cannot be cooked at the same time on the same equipment as hamburgers due to different temperature requirements.

Oak Park Inn, Arcadia FL Road Trip
Welcome to Oak Park Inn
The Oak Park Inn is located in the heart of Florida Cattle and Citrus Country. One of the oldest towns in Florida, Arcadia was incorporated in 1888. Only 25 miles from Gulf Coast Beaches, an hours drive from great shopping in Sarasota, Naples, and Ft. Myers. Where you can tour the winter homes of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. If Theme Parks are your interest, we are only a one and 1/2 hour drive to Sea World and Disney World.
Arcadia is a Florida Main Street City and on the National Registry of Historic places. Enjoy the oldest Rodeo in Florida, with many events throughout the year. Canoe or hunt for Fossils on the Peace River. If Antiquing is your pleasure, you will find it here with many fine Antique and specialty stores to choose from.
Beautifully restored, and remodeled, our twelve room (1 suite) Bed and Breakfast Inn, resides in a building built in the late 1800s. In 1905 the whole town of Arcadia burned to the ground, with only 3 buildings surviving the fire. Our Inn being one of the three.
Come to the Oak Park Inn, and make it your home away from home, as you explore this part of Florida.
Driving Around Arcadia, Florida
Arcadia Municipal Airport hosts an annual Aviation Day event in the month of March. Currently the event consists of a static display of aircraft, biplane rides, helicopter rides, and a skydiving demonstration, but bigger plans are in the works.
Arcadia is located on the Peace River, the major tributary of the Charlotte Harbor estuary. The river offers fine canoeing, shark tooth hunting and natural habitats. Tours, recreational accessories and accommodations are readily available.
Arcadia hosts DeSoto County's annual fair usually in the month of January. While traditional aspects of a fair or carnival are provided, the event also presents livestock shows consisting of swine and cattle, which are presented by the local FFA and 4-H.
Arcadia is also the home of three rodeos. These events, which are managed by the local rodeo association, occur during the month of March, the Fourth of July holiday, and in the fall. From the profits of these events many local charities, college scholarships and causes receive funding.
Arcadia is one of the largest groupings of antique dealers in the state, all located conveniently in the downtown area. The local dealers' association sponsors a 4th Saturday Antique Fair each month from 8 am to 3 pm, bringing an additional 60 to 120 independent dealers in for the event.

Fossil Hunt FEB 18, 2017: A Great Haul from 4 hours of Sifting!
The Tampa Bay Fossil Club does member field trips to the Peace River pretty often and I finally had a chance to go with them! Got to go to a spot I've never been to before and I found lots of great stuff, including a fossil deer tooth, in 4 hours before my Back finally said enough's enough! :-P
I mistaken the deer tooth for a tapir tooth when I first find it, but when I got home I did some research and I also consulted with some experts, including someone from the University of Florida, and it is certainly a fossil deer tooth molar. Clearly, mammal teeth are not my area of expertise, but I'm learning! ;-)
While I was there, I met Patrick who does guided fossil hunting tours at Peace River and Gainesville. So if you are looking for a guided tour in these areas you can find his info here:
Disclaimer: Fossil Hunting in Florida, on State owned or leased land, requires a permit for anything other than Shark Teeth and Shells, but it is common to find other vertebrate fossils at the same time as these. So, play it safe! Apply for a permit here if you plan on fossil hunting in Florida:
It is only $5 for a year permit

Lost footage of Don Brunning's Mega-Fossil Hunt in 1990
Here's previously unreleased footage of the first day's fossil hunt back in 1990 on the Wekiva River in Sanford, FL. You cannot collect on that river anymore but back then it was definitely a honey-hole! Note the size of the fossils compared to the tools hanging on the wall behind them. They were in great shape... and huge!
BTW, all fossils were donated, along with the hundreds of others we found during a later 3-day excavation, to the Florida Museum in Gainesville, FL.
