KOGARAH'S BRUCE LEE STATUE
In March 2011, the Sydney council of Kogarah erected a Bruce Lee statue gifted to it from it's sister city in China. The question was, why, and TODAY's Mike Dalton went to ask it...
World's Fastest Nunchucker - Bruce Lee Statue SYDNEY
4th March 2011 saw a statue of Bruce Lee unveiled in Sydney's town of Kogarah as a gift from their sister city in China, Ma'anshan. The ceremony was cool with some martial arts displays to pay homage to Bruce Lee's ancestral background.
The ceremony was marred by a small group of protestors as the Bruce Lee statue is seen as controversial for varied reasons. Partially due to protests against China's human rights record but also it is seen by some as a threat to Australia's own culture and historical identity.
All that aside... this guy was awesome! He should have used the nunchucks on one or two of the protesters! LOL (JOKING!)

Hong Kong’s entry in the 2014 Lord Mayor's Show in London highlights kung fu stars
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, (London ETO) took part in the City of London Lord Mayor's Show (November 8, London time) for the tenth year with a float showcasing Hong Kong’s kung fu movies and stars such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Lau Ka-leung and Sammo Hung.
The centrepiece of London ETO’s entry in the parade was a larger-than-life statue of kung fu star Bruce Lee, doing his signature high kick. The Hong Kong float featured a lorry decked out like a film set, with cameras, film canisters and clapperboards, as well as video screens showing clips of kung fu movies, together with portraits of kung fu stars. Around the lorry were six Shaolin Kung Fu Masters showing off their moves, as well as actors portraying a movie director and stars shooting kung fu movie scenes .
The Lord Mayor’s Show celebrates the swearing-in of the new Lord Mayor of London. This year, Alderman Alan Yarrow became the 687th Lord Mayor of the City of London. More than half a million people take to the streets to see the parade each year, while the BBC broadcasts it live to millions people in Britain and globally.
Ms Erica Ng, Director-General of London ETO, which devised and organised Hong Kong’s float, said: We congratulate the new Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Yarrow, and look forward to working with him. Our float in this year's Lord Mayor's Show demonstrates that as well as being one of the world's most forward-looking, business-focused cities, Hong Kong is also a powerhouse of kung fu movies and home to a vibrant and thriving creative sector.”
“While Hong Kong may be small – with just over 7 million people - we have been notably blessed with film industry talent. Kung fu movies have been indelibly linked with the city for a long time, from the movies of the Shaw Brothers to those featuring renowned kung fu stars such as Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Sammo Hung.”
London ETO has been taking part in the Lord Mayor’s Show since 2005, with colourful and exciting displays highlighting the city’s cultural heritage, including Cantonese opera, Lam Tsuen Wishing Tree and Cheung Chau Bun Festival etc, and in 2013, comic and animation characters from Hong Kong.
The statue of Bruce Lee used on the HKETO float is a replica of the sculpture now on display at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum in its special exhibition celebrating the life and career of Bruce Lee. The original design and production is by Hong Kong artist Master Chu Tat-shing and is recreated with his kind permission.
