Bryggen -Norway Best Place - Travel & Discover
Bryggen, also known as Tyskebryggen is a series of Hanseatic commercial buildings lining the eastern side of the Vågen harbour in Bergen, Norway. Bryggen has since 1979 been on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites.
The city of Bergen was founded around 1070 within the original boundaries of Tyskebryggen. Around 1350 a Kontor of the Hanseatic League was established there, and Tyskebryggen became the centre of the Hanseatic commercial activities in Norway. Today, Bryggen houses museums, shops, restaurants and pubs.

In this amwf vlog we show you Bryggen in Bergen Norway in 4K!
Bryggen is a Hanseatic Whaf in Bergen, and has been on the list of the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites since 1979. Bryggen is in fact one of Bergen's and Norway's main attractions. Usually this area is vibrant and packed with people, but Bryggen and Bergen in winter is more calm, quiet and colder than usual. Still, vlogging about Bergen is so much fun no matter what season.
Bryggen was built after the great fire in 1702 and has been burnt down several times as it is made our of wood. The German Hanseatic League set up its trading office, where they dominated for almost 400 years.
Today it is a vibrant part of Bergen city centre with everything from popular restuarants, arts and craft to offices for companies. It's a FREE attraction - believe it or not! So everyone who travels to Bergen can enjoy this great attraction. Is by far one of the best things to do in Bergen and Norway.
Fun fact: There's actually an Escape Room (escape game) inside of Bryggen. This is a great group activity if you're travelling to Bergen and want a challenge in the true Bergen environment.

Our first port that we visited on our cruise was the city of Bergen, the second largest city in Norway with a population of about 420,000. This video summarizes the history of Norway from how it came under Danish rule to when it gained independence from Sweden. The video also includes scenes from the Bryggen and Scenic Cruise Excursion, with a history of the Hanseatic League and a boat ride on one of the many fjords in the Bergen area.

Bergen [ˈbærgən] ist mit 263.762 Einwohnern (Stand 1. Januar 2012) die zweitgrößte Stadt Norwegens, eine Kommune in der Provinz (Fylke) Hordaland sowie deren Verwaltungssitz. Der Großraum von Bergen hat 378.830 Einwohner.[2]
Der Hafen von Bergen ist einer der geschäftigsten Seehäfen Europas,[3] von dem aus die Schiffe der Hurtigruten starten. Die Stadt ist zudem Ausgangspunkt der Bergenbahn. Im Kulturbereich gibt es das bekannte Theater Den Nationale Scene sowie die Grieghalle.

Bryggen, the old warf of Bergen in Norway, was an important Hanseatic town from the 14th to the 16th century. This is clearly visible from the characteristic wooden houses. In the renovated parts of the houses, tradesmen and creative poeple bring their products to the customer.
The buildings in Bryggen have several floors with built-in galleries or lofts to keep the feet and stores dry in bad weather. This building method has been influenced strongly by European traditions. The unique thing is the layout: two rows of wooden houses with a kind of garden or courtyard in between.

Bergen is the second-largest city in Norway. The city centre and northern neighbourhoods are located on Byfjorden, the city fjord, and the city is surrounded by mountains; Bergen is known as the city of seven mountains. Trading in Bergen may have started as early as the 1020s. According to tradition the city was founded in 1070 by king Olav Kyrre. It served as Norway's capital in the 13th century, and from the end of the 13th century became a bureau city of the Hanseatic League. Until 1789, Bergen enjoyed exclusive rights to mediate trade between Northern Norway and abroad and it was the largest city in Norway until surpassed by the capital city, Oslo, in the 1830s. Follow the approximate 10 minutes walk from the Bergen Cruise port at Bontelabo past king Håkons Hall, Rosenkrantz Tower, Bryggen, and the central square Torgallmenningen, where you end up at the popular meeting point Den blå steinen (The Blue Stone).

Our second stop on our month-long trip to Scandinavia/Europe.
We rode the bus from Alesund to Bergen for 9 hours including at least 5 ferry rides (whole bus have access inside the ferry so you won't have to worry about any transfer).
The scenery is breathtaking! I would recommend doing this instead of riding a train or plane.
In Bergen, dont miss Bryggen, Floibanen, Mount Floyen and the Fish Market which is one of Norway's most visited fish market.

Going back to Bergen after a 3 hours cruise to admire fiords and small villages. The Bryggen is always stunning.

Bergen was awesome -- from Bryggen to Fløyen | Norway ????????
Had a magnificent day exploring Bergen on one of the hottest days in Norway's recorded history. ????☀️
Bergen is a fantastic city -- all of the landmarks and points of interest are within short walking distance, and there's an opportunity to hike as well. We were quite amazed at seeing how steep and fast the Fløibanen cable car could go, so we decided to hike up to the top of Fløyen to get a closer look. ????
Bryggen (the dock) is on the UNESCO list for World Cultural Heritage sites, and it indeed can transport to another time and place. There were a lot of tourists though, so we enjoyed exploring the buildings from the back rather than the front.
P.S. Sorry for the quiet sound at the start of the video, it seems our RODE microphone is letting us down ????

Bryggen, the old wharf of Bergen, is a reminder of the towns importance as part of the Hanseatic Leagues trading empire from the 14th to the mid-16th century. Many fires, the last in 1955, have ravaged the characteristic wooden houses of Bryggen. Its rebuilding has traditionally followed old patterns and methods, thus leaving its main structure preserved, which is a relic of an ancient wooden urban structure once common in Northern Europe. Today, some 62 buildings remain of this former townscape.

World Heritage Sites - Bryggen i Bergen, Norway #01
Bergen was founded back in 1070 and developed into a significant financial centre for the crown, church and state. The favourable position of the port contributed to the flourishing of trade between the north of Scandinavia and other places overseas. This brought welfare to the people and the country.
Bryggen, which means quayside, started as a small settlement of wooden houses. The first were economically built in rows parallel to each other.
The front side of the houses now border on the harbour quay where the ships used to moor. The ships would transport whale and fish oil, stockfish, wood and skins from the north of Norway to Greenland, Iceland and The Faroe islands. They brought back textile and agricultural products from the British isles, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The characteristic wooden houses have maintained the same character throughout the centuries. Built in rows, the front side facing the water with the offices and warehouses at the back. In fact this style of construction did not change for 900 years, which explains their status of World Heritage.
