Battle of New Orleans (1815) -- British troops prepare to advance (Pt 1)
Clip from the 1958 movie “The Buccaneer” (119 min). Music by Elmer Bernstein.
“The Buccaneer” is a 1958 War film, made by Paramount Pictures – as was the 1938 version -- and shot in Technicolor and VistaVision. The historical setting is during the War of 1812, telling a heavily fictionalized version of how the pirate Jean Lafitte helped in the Battle of New Orleans and how he had to choose between fighting for America or for the side most likely to win, the United Kingdom.
The film is a remake of the 1938 film of the same name which starred Fredric March and Akim Tamiroff. The 1938 version was produced and directed by Cecil B. DeMille, but he was seriously ill by the time the 1958 version was made, so he was only the executive producer on that version, leaving his then son-in-law, Anthony Quinn, to direct. It was the only film that Quinn ever directed. Henry Wilcoxon, DeMille's long-time friend, who made frequent appearances in his films, was the actual producer, and DeMille did not receive screen credit, though students of his films would probably say that his touch is obvious throughout the film. Nevertheless, DeMille was unhappy with the film and tried unsuccessfully to improve it; critical response was generally unfavourable, despite some impressive battle scenes.
The 1958 film stars Yul Brynner as Lafitte, Charles Boyer in the Akim Tamiroff role and Claire Bloom. Charlton Heston plays a supporting role as Andrew Jackson. It was the second time that Heston had played Jackson, having portrayed him earlier in the film “The President's Lady”. Also featured in the cast are Inger Stevens, Henry Hull, E. G. Marshall, Lorne Greene, Ted de Corsia, Ed Hinton, and Douglass Dumbrille.
Inspire Marine- Formula 40 Trimaran- Interior walkthrough
Inspire Marine are pleased to present for sale the magnificent Formula 40 Trimaran Spirit.
'Spirit' is in superb condition and has been lovingly cared for by her meticulous owners, both of whom are professional mariners. This beautiful Trimaran is for sale and ready to go with nothing more needed to be spent. Her inventory is complete, including complete electronics, sail wardrobe and safety gear. Everything you would need to commence your global adventure.
She was originally drawn and designed to be a formula 40 trimaran. She however was launched at the classes end and never took part in the formula 40 racing that was taking place around France. She did go on to become one of England's most formidable multihulls during the mid to late 90’s and her race record and wins reflect this.
In 2010 she was sold and went on to sail from the east coast of the USA to Australia via the Pacific. In 2014/15 she underwent a full refit and redesign of her interior and exterior spaces. Spirit now poses as one of the worlds fastest 40ft cruising boats and is ready for extended sailing in remote places. She’s been set up to be energy independent and extremely efficient, which in turn makes her a very easy platform to cruise on. Her ability to maintain high speeds even in light conditions makes her a fantastic boat for those wishing to live simply on a pure sailing craft. Her race pace also makes her a great boat for anyone wishing to compete and to win races.
Spirit is currently located in Phuket Thailand and must be seen to be truly appreciated is available available for inspection.
Keen vendors and all serious offers considered.

Sin City Jamaica - Pirate Paradise . . : : Documentary : : . .
SIN CITY ... The Port Royal Project ...
Once known as the 'Wickedest City on Earth,' Port Royal on the island of Jamaica was one of the largest towns in the English colonies during the late 17th century. It was a haven for privateers and pirates, such as the famed Sir Henry Morgan, due to its excellent geographic location in the middle of the Caribbean. From Port Royal, these buccaneers preyed upon and plundered the heavily laden treasure fleets departing from the Spanish Main.
After 1670, the importance of Port Royal and Jamaica to England was increasingly due to trade in slaves, sugar, and raw materials. It soon became the mercantile center of the Caribbean area, with vast amounts of goods flowing in and out of the port through an expansive trade network.
Unfortunately, the glory of Port Royal was short-lived. On the morning of June 7th, 1692, a massive earthquake hit Jamaica. The tremors rocked the sandy peninsula on which the town was built, causing buildings to slide and disappear beneath the sea. An estimated 2000 Port Royalists were killed immediately in the disaster. Many more perished from injuries and disease in the following days.
From 1981 to 1990, the Institute of Nautical Archaeology, in cooperation with the Nautical Archaeology Program at Texas A&M University and the Jamaica National Heritage Trust, began underwater archaeological investigations of the submerged portion of Port Royal. The following pages highlight what we have found so far. The last excavation season was in 1990 and no further excavations are planned.
The last TAMU/INA excavation at Port Royal was conducted in 1990, at present there are no plans to undertake any further excavations.

2:18:50 Buccaneers Celebration
Super Bowl 37 was a revenge story for Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden. After being hired in 1995, Gruden helped build up the Raiders into championship contention by the early 2000s, but owner Al Davis traded him to the Buccaneers after a salary dispute. Gruden took his football expertise to Tampa Bay, where he guided the Buccaneers to the Super Bowl against his former team. Tampa Bay was not too interested in continuing the Shakespearian story, as they tore the Raiders apart en route to a 48-21 victory.
