DIVING -Malapascua island in the Philippines
Malapascua is well known for incredible macro at all its dive sites. You can see many types of shrimps and crabs, including harlequin shrimp, ghost shrimp and xeno crabs. Pipefish are all around including several types of ghost pipefish. The night dive is spectacular, with mandarin fish mating all over the place, seahorses, bobtail squid, sea hares, and huge crabs and sea stars. Mimic and blue ring octopus can be seen as well as the occasional stargazer and hairy frogfish. Some have said the muck diving rivals Lembeh Straits.

Malapascua Island is famous for scuba diving with Thresher sharks, but there is so much more to do here than sharks! Thresher shark diving finishes early in the morning, so you'll have plenty of time for a fun afternoon discovering everything to do on Malapascua island!
We stayed at Malapascua Garden Resort to be close to the beach, restaurants, and dive shops. After diving with Thresher sharks we hired a private boat for an impromptu island hopping tour, picked up lunch to go at the Malapascua food market, and went snorkeling at a sunken Japanese ship, a coral garden, and an underwater cave. There is so much beauty and diversity on this small island!
After our Malapascua Island hopping tour we rented a motorbike to explore the island on our own. We saw North Head beach and lots of local villages as we drove along. The locals are so friendly, and calling out to them was one of the best things we did on our island motorbike tour!
We even found a community school teaching children who live on the island how to make crafts they can sell to tourists. What a magical place!
There is so much more to do on Malapascua Island than just scuba diving with Thresher sharks, and we hope you enjoy all of them! Follow our hilarious family travel vlog to see what you might enjoy doing as a family on Malapascua Island!
