Autumn Waterfall And Salmon Leaping River Almond Buchanty Glen Almond Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland Autumn travel video of the narrow waterfall and salmon leaping on the River Almond at Buchanty in Glen Almond near Crieff, Perthshire. The river flows through a succession of turbulent gorges at this location having started its journey on the moors and mountains to the south of Loch Tay. On their remarkable journey, salmon make their way back from the ocean to the rivers and follow them upstream. During this time, there are ferocious currents to battle through and waterfalls to ascend, some several metres in height. Salmon propel themselves up and out of the water to tackle the toughest bits of river, their pectoral fins tucked in to ensure they are streamlined as they leap from the water and launch themselves into the gushing torrents of river rapids. While it looks like it is a struggle, the swollen rivers provide them with enough depth to swim through the water. Salmon tend to be more active in the early morning and evening so time your visit to make the most of your salmon spotting. The best sightings tend to be in October and November.
