THE WITCH'S FOOT - The History Guy in Bucksport, Maine
Jonathan Buck was born in Woburn, Massachusetts on February 20, 1719, and raised in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He died March 18, 1795, in Bucksport, Maine. He is the founder of the town of Bucksport, having settled what was known as Plantation 1, building the first sawmill and opening the first general store.
The two grave markers for Col. Jonathan Buck
Colonel Buck was a justice of the peace and is the subject of a legend that holds that he ordered a witch put to death by burning, and this witch put a curse on his tomb. There is a monument to Col. Buck erected in the Bucksport Cemetery in 1870 which bears a stain roughly in the shape of a woman's lower leg. According to the legend, the stain is the leg and foot of the witch, and that the mark has reappeared whenever the tombstone has been replaced.
Jonathan Buck left Haverhill when his request to build a shipyard on the Merrimack River was denied and instead he was offered privileges on a tributary on another side of his land. Since Buck did not own the land on the opposite side of the brook, he saw no ability to thrive as a shipbuilder in Haverhill.
In 1775 Buck was appointed by the Massachusetts Provincial Congress as Colonel in the 5th Regiment of the District of Maine Militia in Lincoln County and placed in charge of Fort Pownall located at the mouth of the Penobscot River. He was one of the leaders of the Penobscot Expedition in July-August, 1779, a major loss for the colonial forces. After this, Buck trekked back to Haverhill to be with his sons, and did not return to Maine until 1783.

Colonel Bucks Monument Bucksport, Maine 10 30 2014
With Halloween being tomorrow we decided to take a drive to Bucksport Maine. Birthplace of my lovely wife, Phyllis. Although we only live a few hours away I decided to stay a couple days at the Bucksport Motor Inn. A small Motel along the Penobscot river. While there we visited the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory tower. (see the video here also) We also intend to visit the Great Fort Knox After we check out Col. Bucks Monument just outside our Motel. The town has great restaurants and serve great meals. We loved it there and don't forget to check out Perry's Nut House in Belfast just 15 miles down the road.

Fort Knox State Park Maine
We knew it was going to be a lot of rain and wind today so we drove to Bucksport Maine to visit the Penobscot Narrows bridge and Observatory, Colonel Bucks Monument, Fort Knox State Park. Today the park was closed to prepare for a Halloween calibration on October 31st, tomorrow but The Friends Of Fort Knox allowed us to have exclusive entry today considering my veterans status. We had the fort to ourselves. Inclement weather didn't stop us from having a great time alone in the fort. Watch our other videos on the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory and the Cemetery where Colonel Bucks Monument is located. Although we lived only a couple hours from our home in Hallowell, we stayed at the Bucksport Motor Inn. It's a small, clean, quiet, reasonable rates, conveniently located next to colonel Bucks Monument.

Wilson Hall: The building behind the Ragged Old Flag
This is a video I put together with Johnny Cash reciting his Raggedy Old Flag speech. If fits well with Wilson Hall, on the verge of being demolished. Men from the East Maine Conference Seminary went off to the Civil War from the doorstep of Wilson Hall never to return. They died at Petersburg serving in the First Maine Heavy Artillery. They died at Rappahannock Station, they died in all of the Major Battles of the Civil War. There is a book entitled The East Maine Conference Seminary War Record, that states all of these Heroes and how they died. It is freely available on Google Books.
History is being lost in Bucksport and all over the State and Country. I'm a Historian. I save history. That is what I do.
Ghost Hunt at Fort Knox
This is the recent Paranormal Investigation at the Fort Knox State Park, in Prospect, Maine. We were given a hour exclusive and we made good use of the time. We focused on the Alcove, the most haunted area and then 2 step alley the second most haunted area of the Fort.
Looking for ghosts at Fort Knox in Bucksport, Maine
Ghost Hunters is coming to Fort Knox and they are looking for first hand accounts of paranormal activity experienced therein. I...found...nothing. Not even one stupid orb. I have a sneaky suspicion that there are no such things as ghosts. Sorry, Jason and Grant--don't waste your time.
