Budapest Must Know Tips | Budapest Travel Tips | Budapest with Kids
Budapest is the capital city of Hungary. It is one of the most pocket-friendly cities in Europe that we have visited till now!
Here are 5 must-know tips based on my visit to Budapest,
1. Free walking tour: A Walking tour gives you a very good overview about the city and you get a lot of tips on the main things to do. We like Free walking tours as they don’t have a fixed charge and you can tip depending on how you like the tour. Since the tips depend on how the guide performs, the guide also makes sure that they make the tour interesting, so it’s a win-win for all! Also, in these tours, you can get tips on eating places and other suggestions you might need. The tour we took started from the main square and ended near Castle area. It lasted around 2.5 hours and is highly recommended. Link of the tour that we took can be found in the description below.
2. Hungarian Baths: These baths use water from more than 120 natural hot springs because of which, the water has several healing qualities. It is a must do experience if you are in Budapest. Even if you have less time in hand, there are limited time tickets to these places too. We visited Szechenyi (Say-chain-nee) Baths. This bath opened more than 100 years ago and one of the biggest and quite beautiful in whole europe. It is located in city park of Budapest. You can use yellow metro line M1 to reach this Bath easily.
Day ticket is around 20 euro per person and if you have less time in hand, you can also opt for 2 hours experience in morning for around 15 euros per person.
I had a really great time and did not want to leave! If there’s only one thing you can do in Budapest, this should be your top choice!
3. Hungarian Foods try: We were able to try 2 main foods which are famous there
a) Goulash - Goulash is a famous dish in Central Europe. It is made with pieces of meat, vegetables and spices. The Hungarian version is more soupy and thin in consistency as compared to the stew that’s served in other countries like Czech Republic. It’s really yummy and a must try!
b)Langos - This is deep-fried crispy dough, traditionally topped with sour cream and cheese. This is one of the few traditional dishes that vegetarians can have. Now a days, these come with various sweet and savoury toppings. It’s really heavy and not very healthy, but it does taste yumm.
4. This one is about a tram which will take you to different places and shows you very nice views of the city. It is considered as one of the most beautiful and cheapest ways of sight-seeing in Budapest. Tram number 2 which runs along the Danube river and goes to some of the main sights like Parliament, the Gresham Palace, Chain Bridge and Shoes at Danube bank. Do take this and all you have to pay is public transport price which is around 1 euro for a single ride.
5. Airport Transfers: How to reach from Budapest Airport to City center? We prefer taking public transport for these transfers and found a bus ride which runs every 10 mins from the airport. The Bus number is 100E and we took a ride to Deak Ferenc which is very close to all the main sights. This journey costs 900 Hungarian Forint per person, which is roughly 3 EUR. You can also opt for Taxi, it should cost you around 30 EUR. There is another airport bus service 200E as well in case you are not staying in central area and want to switch to Metro. 900E is another service which runs at night time from 11pm to 4am.
Bonus Tip -
Here’s a quick tip on saving money on Public Transport. If you are a group of 3 to 5 people, buy a “24-hour Group Travel Card”. Using this card, a group of upto 5 people can travel together on any Public transport in Budapest. It costs 3300 Hungariam Forint, which is approximately 10 euros. So, if you are 5 people, each person spends only 2 euros for any number of trips on any kind of Public Transport for 1 full day! Isn’t it amazing!
Told you Budapest is one of the most pocket friendly cities !!!
