The Chimps of Budongo Central Forest Reserve -- Uganda
A visit to the Chimps of Budongo Central Forest Reserve - Uganda July 2006
Chimpanzees of Kibale and Budongo Forest and Birding in Bigodi Wetlands, Uganda 2019 (4K -Video)
Trekking to our nearest family tree neighbor, the chimpanzee. The Kibale forest national park is home to a big population of chimpanzees and we had the chance to visit a large group with baby and semi-adults. Observing these amazing great apes gives an idea of how close we are related to one another. The articulation, precision and movement of their hand is identical to ours. Also chimpanzees are highly social animals that spend a lot of time grooming each other to keep them free from ticks and other parasites.
Our second chimpanzee trekking took place in the Budongo Forest Reserve in Murchison Falls National Park. Here the chimpanzees rested on the ground and we could observe their social behavior in great details.
In between the chimpanzee trekking we went for birding excursions. The first started from Ndali Lodge all around the crater lake Nyinambuga where we were lucky to see the great blue turaco, Klaa’s cuckoo and black-and-white-casqued hornbill.
The second birding was in the Bigodi wetlands. Besides many species of birds we also saw red colobus, black-and-white colobus and red-tailed monkeys.
Welcome to our chimpanzee trekking and birding to Kibale Forest National Park, Budongo Forest Reserve and Bigodi Wetlands in Uganda in August 2019. We stayed two nights at the beautiful Ndali Lodge near Kibale and one night at the Budongo Eco Lodge.
For animal identification, please refer to the video subtitle or to the species list below.
With best regards,
Sandra and Markus

Chimp trekking in Budongo Forest, Uganda
We went chimp trekking in Uganda's Budongo Central Forest Reserve in
February 2010. We came across a large group of chimpanzees, mostly
feeding in the trees, but one chimp - Babyface - was on the ground and
seemed quite content to be around us. They were very vocal that day,
and we even heard them drumming on the buttress roots of trees (sadly
not recorded!). The hour we spent with the chimps was magical.
Budongo Forest Reserve (short version)
Asha Tanna travelled to the Budongo Forest Reserve in West Uganda in July 2010 to film and report on the work conservations are doing to safeguard the lives of wild chimpanzees. A pilot scheme is running in two villages where hunters give up their snares in return for goats to breed and rear. The number of snares has dropped significantly those areas bordering the forest.

Budongo Eco Lodge, also known as the Kaniyo Pabidi Ecotourism site, is located in the heart of Budongo Forest Reserve in Murchison Falls National Park. This reserve has one of the largest forests in Uganda with an incredible biodiversity, including 9 species of primates and 360 different bird species.
Budongo Lodge consists of a visitor's centre, restaurant, comfortable self-contained cabins and spacious dorm rooms with shared facilities. In addition, the lodge offers a wide choice of activities in the direct surroundings, including chimpanzee tracking, chimp habituation, forest walks and bird watching.

BUDONGO FOREST IN DAGER
This comes just days after over 2000 police trainees from Kabalye training School pitched camp in Budongo for a four day training, clearing a big chunk of juvenile trees, living Uganda’s biggest natural forest on the brink of extinction.
Residents of Karujubi division in Masindi district are now questioning, why a government institution that is supposed to enforce the law, is again at the forefront of forest degradation
Justice in the forests
Who gets to decide about forests? With deforestation causing such havoc for biodiversity, the climate and the livelihoods of millions of forest-dependent people around the world, it is an important question. Tackling forest governance: how small groups can have a big impact and Justice in the forests give an insight into common trials and tribulations faced across forest nations.
CONSERVING CENTRAL FOREST RESERVES Opening boundaries for kagombe CFR
At last official opening of the boundary for Kagombe Central Forest Reserve is set to begin before the end of April 2016 in a campaign to address the challenge of the continued encroachment and destruction of Natural Central Forest Reserves.
The opening of the boundary follows the Court Order demanding that the NFA opens up the boundaries of the central forest reserves to allow communities understand the actual boundaries of the reserve and stop encroachment and illegal cutting of timber.
The boundary opening exercise for Kagombe central forest reserve comes amidst increased encroachment that has left only 20% out of the total 11,330 hectares of the natural reserve.

ECOZONE: Adventures – Murchison Falls National Park [Part B]
Day 2 kicked off with a trip to Budongo Forest - an excellent spot to track chimpanzees while visiting Murchison Falls Park. The success rate in seeing Chimpanzees is quite high here and only outdone by Kibale Forest. There are morning and afternoon chimpanzee tracking times and for those visiting Murchison Falls National Park this can be done on the way to or from Murchison Falls National Park adding another activity to your safari there. The ideal plan would be to stay overnight and also do a forest walk while at Budongo Forest.
