I'm still in Budva, Montenegro, and after dealing with the joy of a washroom so small that I have to sit on the toilet side saddle, I got out and explored a little bit around town. Budva is cool, and much more impressive than I expected it to be. The old town of Budva actually feels a lot like a tiny version of the old town of Dubrovnik. In many ways, it feels a bit like King's Landing in Game of Thrones. After exploring for a bit, I went out of the old town to shoot some drone footage with Fido and then some photography of the seascapes and city from outside the walls.

Top best places to visit in Budva, Montenegro
Budva is a coastal tourist resort on the Adriatic Sea in Montenegro.
Budva, known for its well preserved medieval walled city, is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast.
It is often called Montenegrin Miami, because it is the most crowded and most popular tourist area in Montenegro with beautiful beaches and diverse nightlife.
Luxury yachts dominate marina berths during the summer, overshadowing small fishing vessels owned by the locals.
Budva is blessed with many natural beaches.
A small Richard's Head Beach is just next to the old town.
Arguably the best known and most attractive of the city beaches, nested beneath the cliffs, is Mogren Beach.
Between those beaches is the Dancing Girl Statue, the most popular tourist sculpture in the city.
The best known landmark is the city’s Old Town which has complete fortifications with city gates, towers and a citadel and within the walls the entire area is pedestrian-only.
The most important structures in the Old Town are:
Church of Saint John, one of the oldest churches in the coastal region.
Built in Byzantine style with red and white stone stripes, the Church of the Holy Trinity.
And the Citadel, a fortification used to protect Budva from the sea.
The Citadel is a medieval castle built and dedicated to St. Mary, this is also the most monumental architectural object within the town walls.
From the Citadel there is a very beautiful view of the city and the sea.

Old Town Budva, Montenegro at Night
This was shot in early July of 2014, should give you an idea of what it's like in and around the city walls of old town Budva, Montenegro.
The Budva Riviera is a beautiful spot and recommend looking into it if you're in the area or looking for a great summer vacation.
BUDVA, MONTENEGRO
Don't tell anyone this, but Budva, Montenegro is one of the best kept secrets of the former Balkans. Ancient city walls, crystal clear water, a great hostel (go to the Freedom hostel within the old historic town), AND you can get a slice of pizza and a coke for 2,50.
Jokes aside though, it's a great town, and not touristic at all. Enjoy! LIKE this video if you enjoyed it, and then JOIN the PARTY by SUBSCRIBING to my channel!

High Intensity Budva, Montenegro
Swinging, crowded, chaotic Budva is on the Montenegro Riviera. It is the most visited destination in the country! Completely destroyed by two earthquakes in 1979, Budva has been completely rebuilt from the ground up .Authorities had hoped for UNESCO status but didn't qualify because everything is new.
The small seaside destination swarms with tourists during the summer who come for the stony beaches and nightlife. Tiny Budva becomes a nonstop party town inside the old city walls, loaded with bars, nightclubs, restaurants and boutiques.
Party on...

Altstadt (Old Town) Budva in Budva, Montenegro
Budva is a Montenegrin town on the Adriatic Sea, former bishopric and present Latin Catholic titular see. It has around 60,000 inhabitants, and it is the centre of Budva Municipality. The coastal area around Budva, called the Budva riviera, is the center of Montenegrin tourism, known for its well-preserved medieval walled city, sandy beaches and diverse nightlife. Budva is 2,500 years old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast.
See the former city fortress, Altstadt (Old Town) Budva, a fully functional complex of antique structures filled with quaint restaurants, historical sites, and homes. As you approach the site from Budva's vibrant promenade, you'll observe its rugged walls, which preserve remnants of numerous cultures, spanning the 6th century BCE to the present day. Tour the narrow Venetian streets, see Roman baths, and visit museums that preserve ancient treasures, medical instruments, and miniature multicolored glass vessels where sailors kept their loved ones' tears, according to tradition.
The Old Town of Budva is situated on a rocky peninsula, on the southern end of Budva field. Archaeological evidence suggests that Illyrian settlement was formed on the site of the Old Town before Greek colonization of the Adriatic. While the site was permanently settled since Roman era, most of existing city walls and buildings were erected during the Venetian rule.
The entire town is encircled with defensive stone walls. The fortifications of Budva are typical of the Medieval walled cities of the Adriatic, complete with towers, embrasures, fortified city gates and a citadel.
Originally, there were gates on all of the four sides of the walled city. However, sea-facing gates were closed up over the years. The main city gate is Porta di Terra Ferma, the grand entry to the city from the west. It is also the beginning of the city's main thoroughfare, Njegoševa Street. There are also four more gates on the north wall, facing Budva marina (Porta Pizana, Porta Pizana 1 and 2, and Porta Pizanella), and one small gate facing the southwestern beach of Ričardova glava.
The layout of the town is roughly orthogonal, although many streets deviate from the grid, resulting in somewhat irregular pattern, with many piazzas connected with narrow streets. Today, the entire city within the walls is pedestrian-only.
The town citadel is situated on the southern tip of the city. Originally known as Castle of St Mary, fortification was continually rebuilt and expanded through Middle Ages, reaching its final form during the Austro-Hungarian rule. The sea-facing 160m long ramparts of the citadel, complete with eastern and western towers, are intricately connected to the rest of the city walls. Austrian stone barracks form the most prominent structure within the castle, separating the citadel from the rest of the walled city. Ruins of the Santa Maria de Castello church, after which the entire complex was originally named, are located within the citadel.
A large public square is located to the north of the citadel, containing all of the churches of the old town - St. Ivan church (17th century), Santa Maria in Punta (840 AD), and The Holy Trinity church (1804).
The Old Town suffered extensive damage in 1979 earthquake; repair and reconstruction took eight years (until 1987), but traces of the damage are now hardly noticeable. Today, it is a prime visitor attraction of Budva, packed with tourists during the summer months. Its narrow cobbled streets are lined with restaurants, cafes, pubs and shops.
Although Budva is notable for its long history and its well-preserved Old Town, it is not primarily known as a destination for sightseeing or cultural tourism. Unlike Kotor or Dubrovnik, Budva has an image of a crowded beach resort, with a lively and vibrant atmosphere and a very active nightlife.

Budva, Montenegro
17th - 19th July
Budva is an overdeveloped resort. The walls of the old town are covered with advertisements and the beach is covered with sun baking bodies and beach umbrellas advertising CocaCola. Our guesthouse, though quite nice, was impossible to find as there are no street signs and even the locals don't know the names of streets. Fortunately a kind man, after failing to stop a taxi for us, walked us all the way to the guesthouse, which we were able to recognise by the picture on our booking sheet. No name and no number! There was some nice scenery but we much prefer where we are now - Soline, near Dubrovnik, with unspoilt beaches and hills.
