This is a longer video we produced for friends of family
Arrival in Fiji & Transfers
We flew into Nadi International Airport from Sydney arriving around 330pm. A Musket Cove rep greeted us at the airport and directed Hannah and I to a waiting people mover van with there guests and we began a short 20min journey to Port Denarau. At the Port, we were greeted and led to a baggage drop off area. After waiting 20mins we boarded the Malolo Cat IV (a brand new looking 20m Catamaran) to take us to the Beautiful Malolo Leilei Island. The trip took 45mins and we chatted to other guests. Although the temperature is in the mid 20’s, because it is winter time, it gee dark at around 530pm and we only saw a little bit of the coast and islands during our journey.
We were greeted by half a dozen singing and smiling team members off the boat and quickly taken in a golf cart to the main reception where we checked in and received complimentary chilled coconuts and face towels. Minutes later we were escorted to our generous Beach Bure with views overlooking the beautiful bay.
Accommodation
Our accommodation was one of the highlights of our stay at Musket Cove. It was very large and comfortable with a massive King bed and two separate lounging areas or day beds with lots of cushions. The entire room was filled with large wooden shutter windows which gave the place a truly authentic, natural and light feel. The small kitchenette with fridge, toaster, kettle etc was perfect for morning cups of coffee and making home made lunches. The bathroom was huge with robes provided.
Activities
On our first day we rented bikes and explored as much of the island as we could. With only a couple of hills on the island the riding was easy. Hannah is 6 months pregnant and had no trouble riding from Musket Cove to Plantation island (a neighbouring resort), along the airstrip, through staff quarters, over to the Golf Course and back again via the main beach.
You rent bikes from the main Activities centre located near the wharf and you can also book any number of additional activities like village and island tours, water activities like windsurfing, yachting, Scuba, snorkelling, parasailing and many more.
I’m a big golfer and played 3 rounds on the easy 9 hole course operated by Plantation Island. Games cost $30 and an additional fee if you wanted to use a cart which was perfect for Hannah to come along and enjoy with me.
We were stoked to visit Shell Village on neighbouring Big Malolo Island. One of two villages on the island, we travelled 15mins by long boat to visit this authentic Fijian village. Following a formal welcome including a traditional Kava ceremony, we were escorted through the village by a local guide and given 20mins to wonder around their local school, meeting teachers and school kids overlooking the classic Fijian rugby pitch framed by coconut trees.
Staff
Without exception, the staff at Musket Cove were awesome. Everyone greets with wide smiles, gleaming eyes and their traditional and ubiquitous greeting, “Bula!!” Look out for some of our favourites - Save, Net, Pat, Api, Vaa, Josh amongst many, many others. The staff and friendly team were undoubtedly another highlight.
Grounds & Facilities
The grounds are lush, tropical and overflowing with coconut tree groves, Hibscicus, Frangiapani and a host of other native plants and flowers. The native bird life is abundant too.
As mentioned under the accommodation section, we were delighted with our Bure (confirming our impression from pics we’d seen online prior to booking).
Food
We enjoyed some of the dishes provided at the main restaurant called Dick’s Place, especially the themed buffet nights like the Fijian Curry, Mongolian Stirfry as well as the daily complimentary buffet breakfasts. However, the we did not rate the a la carte menu.
Value for Money
Flights from Sydney and our five nights and six days at Musket Cove cost us $3600 AUD which included transfers in Fiji and breakfasts. We also spent an additional $700 on all food and activities on top of our accommodation.
Overall
As you can see from our video ( watch here….. ) Han and I had an amazing trip. Luckily we got great weather (apparently early winter is a great time to visit with temps averaging in the late 20’s). We were looking for a luxurious stay with great service and all of the best Fijian island holiday activities. Musket Cove delivered in spades and we could;t recommend this resort more highly!
