Matthew Love in ISSK at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences - Alternative Pedgagogy - part 1
Matthew Love explains the topic of his lecture:
The subject of our seminar was: In Search for New & Alternative Pedagogies.
We are not trying to reinvent the wheel or nothing or a one size fits all kind of pedagogy...what we are trying to do is develop something different that breaks from the conventional way of thinking and the traditional norms around education...within our different cultural contexts... Maybe something that is tolerant of intercultural differences or merges/converges them...in the search for something new or alternative...(in the way of an educative/learning experience).
Matthew Love is an associated proffessor in Communication in Negoya University, Japan, and also very fond of Bulgaria and of Place for Future Eduacation Network and Travelling University. Here is his lecture about the New types of alternative pedagogy and active learning in the Institute for the Study of Societies and Knowledge at Bulgarian Academy of Sciences at March 6 2017 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Gripping 1988 cinematic depiction of Ottoman Islamic jihad rape of Bulgarian Christians
Mass jihad rape scene from 1988 Bulgarian film epic (288 minutes total; screened at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival), “Vreme Na Nasilie,” “Time of Violence,” a gripping portrayal of the brutal legacy of Ottoman jihadism in the Balkans. Based upon Anton Donchev’s novel, “Vreme Razdelno,” “Time of Parting,” the story rivets upon the attempted late 17thcentury forced Islamization of the Bulgarian village of Elindenya. With bitter irony, the regiment of Muslim Turkish soldiers sent on this mission is led by a Janissary from the town, Kara Ibrahim, taken as a Christian child in the cruel blood tithe devshirme system (see pp. 70-72, 87-88, 555-65; and “Becoming a devshirme was not like winning a Harvard scholarship”), and forcibly converted to Islam.
Bistra Tsvetkova [Cvetkova] (1926-1982) was a Bulgarian-born scholar who studied in Sofia, Cairo, and Paris, before obtaining her PhD from Leningrad University in 1972. Her doctoral thesis analyzed the Ottoman conquest of the Balkans during the early fifteenth century. Dr. Tsvetkova became a member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1952, and a professor at Sofia University, and concurrently, director of the Commission on Ottoman-Turkish source materials, in 1972. The Universite de Strasbourg conferred upon her an honorary degree in 1981. Tsvetkova’s major work in French, Les Institutions Ottomanes en Europe was published in 1978, having been preceded by two decades of prolific, seminal writings in Bulgarian. Not long after a horrific traffic accident, during which her husband was instantly killed, and she was seriously injured, Dr. Tsvetkova committed suicide, August 16, 1982.
Here are the conclusions from a 1957 Russian essay of Tsvetkova’s, which translates, “Religious and ethnic discrimination in Bulgaria during the period of Turkish rule,” and provides a fitting perspective on the contents of the film, “Time of Violence”:
The Ottoman feudal aristocracy purposely encouraged the religious fanaticism of the Muslims, and the hatred of the Muslims towards the non-Muslim reaya [raya; “dhimmis”]. ..Ethnic and religious discrimination, inexorably linked with the burdensome regime of feudal exploitation and political oppression, stalled the development of the Bulgarian people for centuries. This discrimination, which doomed the non-Muslim reaya to enduring insults and attacks on their dignity as human beings, their life, and their personal and familial honor, also limited religious freedom and threatened coercive Islamization, and tightened the yoke of Turkish feudal oppression. Yet, over centuries, the Bulgarian people stubbornly and courageously resisted this regime of discrimination and oppression, and despite attempts at enforced assimilation, managed to preserve its national identity and culture.

Role and Function of Alternative Pedagogy in Higher Education
The Case for Alternative Pedagogy in HE can be a wide range of methods and approaches - Autonomous learning... leadership/community / group dynamics. Technology...also is probably also going to play an increasing role of course
Harnessing the various elements are what makes for a successful pedagogy. That is not to say however there is no room for traditional methods..it's adapting them to the new kind of conditions ....in the learning. The objective here is to combine ideas and knowledge of what we have and hopefully develop something new that offers an alternative to the current narrative of teaching and learning in HE
And education generally. Active Learning...It's the new 'Rock n Roll' of Global education. However, for now let`s start with a pedagogy that is based on the experiences of the collective of the association, (that everyone is free and equal).

The Spiritual Heritage of Bulgaria / Духовното наследство на България
For English see below.

The film ‘’The Spiritual Heritage of Bulgaria” is a project of the International School of the Golden Rosycross (Lectorium Rosicrucianum). This film conveys a message to the world. It is a message of the past and of the future. It tells the story of the powerful spiritual impulses that were emanated from the Balkans over the centuries. We, the producers, hope that through this film a larger public becomes acquainted with this story of the Universal Teaching. Why? Because it is not only history, but also holds a powerful promise for the future…
The film does not claim historical and factual precision, as ancient historical events can always be the subject of discussion. It rather expresses a point of view about the golden trail the Gnosis has left behind in the Bulgarian lands throughout the centuries. We are extremely grateful to the participants in the movie who supported this project with their knowledge and inspiration!
