View of Bumthang valley in Bhutan
One of Bhutan's significant natural resources in the late twentieth century was its rich forests and natural vegetation. Bhutan's location in the eastern Himalayas, with its subtropical plains and alpine terrain, gives it more rainfall than its neighbors to the west, a factor greatly facilitating forest growth. The forests contain numerous deciduous and evergreen species, ranging from tropical hardwoods to predominantly oak and pine forests.
Bumthang is the most historical valley with signs of the visit of the Great Buddhist saints from India, Guru Rinpoche (Precious Master) in the 8th Century. The landscape is in a shape of a Bumpa 'an oblong shaped religious water vase' as seen from chhoekhor on the western hill of the valley. Therefore Bumthang is derived from BUM meaning WATER VASE and THANG meaning FLAT AREA. Bumthang valley the altitude varies from 2560mtrs to 4000mtrs. Crops mainly grows are Potatoes, Barley, wheat and Buck wheat.
Bumthang Valley is the main inhabited valley in the Bumthang district of Bhutan.
The main town in the valley is Jakar. Bhutan's only brewery, brewing Red Panda wheat beer, is in Jakar.
Bumthang is divided into four regions, namely Chhoekhor, Tang, Chhume and Ura.

DRUK BEER REVIEW : BHUTAN
Apparently this is from Bhutan. I am not sure but that's what the bar keeper said. Guys please be vary of bar owners - they are 100% out to get you. If they say 1200 to you, please make sure you give 1200 only. Not 1290 or more. Give the first rate. Always check your change. They tried to fool Jasper - he gave a 2000 rupee note and the guy said we gave 1000 rupees. He then made us wait 10 minutes because he sent his guy to check the video. Should i make a video of his face?

How beer is made in Bhutan! Part 11
A man explains how beer is made in a small brewery in central Bhutan's Bumthang valley.
Bumthang District is one of the 20 dzongkhag (districts) comprising Bhutan. It is the most historic dzongkhag if the number of ancient temples and sacred sites is counted. Bumthang consists of the four mountain valleys of Ura, Chumey, Tang and Choekhor (Bumthang), although occasionally the entire district is referred to as Bumthang valley.
Bumthang directly translates as beautiful field -- thang means field or flat place, and bum is said be an abbreviation of either bumpa (a vessel for holy water, thus describing the shape and nature of the valley), or simply bum (girl, indicating this is the valley of beautiful girls).
Bumthang name came after construction of Jambay Lhakhang, which was constructed in landscape of Bumpa (Vessel) shape. So there after people name the place as Bumthang

Thimpu Tour | Eating Bhutan Food | Beer in Paro | Things To Do in Bhutan | Bhutan Series | Day 5
Today in this travel video we see what there is to do in Thimpu. We got to see Bhutan's national animal, the Takin before walking the hills above the capital Thimpu. Travels in Bhutan showed us more prayer wheels, a competitive dart throwing kid, monks playing football and talking to the spirit Charlie!
For lunch we went to a folk heritage museum and restaurant where Chris tried to eat Bhutan's national dish Ema Datshi (chilli and cheese) and nearly blew his head off!
Keep upto date with us here:

We enjoyed playing archery before going to watch the pros where the target was hundreds of metres away and the competitors sing and dance to celebrate a good shot!
A visit to Thimpu's organic and (very clean) meat markets before a drive to Paro.
Before we settled into our hotel we had to stop for a craft beer at Paro's Namgay Artisanal Brewery - Chris tasted red rice beer.

Wine with a caterpillar inside it! Dried Cordyceps for sale in Bhutan
The caterpillar-fungus of the Himalaya is also sourced from Lunana and Gasa (of the hot springs fame!) in Bhutan. See these bottles of Highland Cordyceps in bottles of Ara, a local alcoholic brew being sold in Paro bazaar. Keera ghas is a sustainable resource that is providing a high source of income to shepherds and villagers in the high Himalaya. Each dried Cordyceps costs between US$10 and US$100 and can be used for performance enhancing. In Bhutan, it is turned into a brew or a drink and kept in the fridge for consumption over time.
Shilajit is a Himalayan rock salt that is extracted from high cliffs and also sold in Bhutan.
