Railways Around Bundaberg
In July 2017, we visited Budaberg on the Central Queensland Coast. I took the opportunity to film some of the railway action and locations around the town, including the Burnett River Crossing, North Bundaberg and Bundaberg Central Stations. We were lucky enough to see container trains operated by not only Pacific National but also Aurizon, who've now pulled out of container work in Queensland. We witnessed a Southbound engineer's working on the bridge and a Northbound loco hauled Tilt Train Replacement, a service also now consigned to history!

Fowler #3 - Bundaberg QLD
The Bundaberg Fowler #3 is a locomotive built by the Bundaberg Foundry in 1952 & 1st commissioned on June 5, 1952. It spent its working life in the sugar industry, firstly at Mourilyan Sugar Mill, where it served until 1966. It then saw service at Millaquin Sugar Mill until 1978 and from there it went to Quanaba Mill until it’s retirement in 1979.
She was then donated to the Bundaberg Steam Tramway Preservation Society Incorporated for restoration in 1981. It was restored and first recommissioned on November 20, 1988 when rail operations began in the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens.
The society, trading as ASCR (Australian Sugar Cane Railway) is a working museum, and is a community non-profit organisation that restores, maintains & operates locomotives that were used in the Bundaberg district to haul sugar cane to the juice & sugar mills.
They can be found in Bundaberg QLD at the Botanical Gardens, just off Young Street.
We enjoyed our visit to the region, and this was our highlight. If you are ever in the area, look them up.
Further details can be found at
I am in no way affiliated with ASCR, nor am I profiting from this video. The information I have supplied was taken from a readout I received on the day and is possibly available on the above mentioned website .
