Magpies | William Spiers
EXHIBITION: Magpies
ARTIST: William Spiers
Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery: Gallery Two
Opening: FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER, 5:30 TO 7:30PM
23/09/2014 - 16/11/2014
William Spiers is inspired by our natural surroundings. In this contemplative and sometimes comical exhibition, the accomplished local artist aims to instil in the viewer an awareness of the wonders that surround us all the time.
Often it is easy to take for granted the uniqueness of Australia’s landscape and wildlife, in which birds feature prominently – and often loudly! To William, the warbling magpie is quintessentially Australian. Following on from ‘Wanderings’, his exhibition of paintings at the School of Arts last year, the works in this new collection display William’s feeling for acrylic, gouache, ink, charcoal and other mixed media, mostly on paper. It offers glimpses of natural wonders and whimsy, that will appeal to all ages.
