Ngamadjidj Shelter
Ngamadjidj - meaning white person.
On the western side (Staplyton Campground) near a small secluded waterhole.
Remains of campfires and stone tools were found here. The paintings at this site are unusual in the fact that they were only done with white clay. Little is known of the meaning of the paintings.
Gulgurn Manja Shelter
Gulgurn Manja - meaning hands of young people.
Access from Hollow Mountain carpark. From the shelter small tribal groups would be able to see the fires of other groups moving over the plains to the north. They used the fine grained sandstone to make stone tools.
The paintings include emu tracks and hand prints many done by children. These paintings were used to help tell stories and pass on the law of the people.
Bunjil's Shelter
Bunjil's Shelter
This short 10 minute walk leads to a rock shelter painting which illustrates the legendary hero Bunjil, the creator, who, according to the dreaming, provided all needs.
One of the most important aboriginal rock art sites in the region this site depicts Bunjil, the traditional creator of the land, and his two dingoes. Bunjil was known as a good spirit who created things as they are today and gave the tribes their law and culture.

The Great Ocean Road & Grampians Road Trip: Day 1 | Victoria
Back in June my friends and I went on a 4 days road trip along the Great Ocean Road and up towards the Grampian. This is a 3 parts videos. Come along and join us on our 4 days journey.
Wadawurrung language: Ballaarat
Wadawurrung country stretches from the mountains to the sea. It includes hills, rivers and grassy plains, creeks and coasts and includes modern towns such as Werribee, Geelong and Ballarat in Victoria.
Since colonisation, white fellas have tried to write down our Wadawurrung language, even though there are no equivalent sounds in English.
We had no written language so early settlers wrote down what they heard using their own language trying to reproduce the sounds.
In this series of short films we correct some of the language spelling of the places we all know and explain the meaning behind our stories.
Language needs a place to live, and this is a chance for us to tell our stories and our language.
Our language is sleeping, but will soon reawaken.
In this video we explain the meaning behind the place Ballaarat, now spelt Ballarat, and why it is such a good place to live. It was a gathering place for both Wadawurrung people and animals that moved off the grassy plains to shelter during winter.

Lal Lal Falls
Love waterfalls? The Lal Lal Falls are one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Moorabool area. Culturally, the Falls are believed to be the earthly home of Bunjil, the Creator to most Victorian Aboriginal tribes. The name Lal Lal is thought to be Aboriginal for dashing of waters. Enjoy a short walk to the lookout for Lal Lal Falls or enjoy the sealed path through beautiful native vegetation. There’s great facilities and an information shelter with fascinating photos and stories of the sites history.
