Longhirst Hall in the spotlight
The spotlight has been turned on the history of a former stately home, near Morpeth, Northumberland.
Longhirst Hall, now an hotel and conference centre and also the base for a golf course as well as a cricket, hockey and tennis club, was once owned by a coal baron said to be the richest man in the country.
In war-time is was requisitioned by the Army and later became a Home Office approved school.
Here local historian and author Neil Taylor tells its story as part of a series of Heritage Open Days organised by the Greater Morpeth Development Trust.

Tranwell woods B6524 approach golf buggy bike fall 15 Jul 2015
As if being overtaken by a golf buggy wasn't surreal enough, a guy came around the corner on a bike and managed to fall into the only puddle for miles around! He was okay - pride dented. I was gutted as I wanted to chase the golf buggy down the pill factory Strava segment!
