Maha Bodhi Society Of India | Buddha Temple | বৌদ্ধ মন্দির
The Maha Bodhi Society is a South Asian Buddhist society founded by the Sri Lankan Buddhist leader Anagarika Dharmapala and the British journalist and poet Sir Edwin Arnold. The organization's self-stated initial efforts were for the resuscitation of Buddhism in India, and restoring the ancient Buddhist shrines at Bodh Gaya, Sarnath and Kushinara.
Although some Indians had remained culturally Buddhist for centuries after the decline of Buddhist philosophy, they did not self-identify as Buddhist. The Maha Bodhi Society renewed interest in Buddhism, and spawned the Ladakh Buddhist Association, All Assam Buddhist Association, and Himalayan Buddhist Society, as well as laying the grounds for the Dalit Buddhist movement.

Thai Monastery at Bodh Gaya - Bihar
Thai Monastery or Buddhist Temple at Bodh Gaya was built in 1956 by Thailand Monarch at request of Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to strengthen relations between the two countries. It is a unique and the only Thai Temple in India. This temple displays the elegance of Thai architecture. The Thai Temple is adorned with sloping and curved roof which is covered with golden tiles. The exterior is exquisite and is not to be missed. The temple stands facing the main road, next to the tourist bungalow.
The temple houses a beautifully carved gigantic bronze statue of Lord Buddha. The atmosphere inside the sanctum is serene and silence falls on the ears upon entry into the monastery.
A 25 meter high statue of Buddha has been recently built in the garden near the Wat Thai Temple

Bodhgaya - Buddhism central in India - aerial view over Mahabodhi Vihar
Fly over the Mahabodhi temple in Bodhgaya in the Gaya district of Bihar. The temple is surrounded by the garden. Mahabodhi temple is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Muchalinda Lake at the far left area of the temple grounds. The Karma temple in Bodhgaya near Falgu river.
Bodhgaya is one of the most important and sacred Buddhist pilgrimage centers in the world. It was here under a banyan tree, the Bodhi Tree, Gautama attained supreme knowledge to become Buddha, the Enlightened One. Born; in the foothills of the Himalayas as a Sakya prince of Kapilvastu (now in Nepal), most of the major events of his life, like enlightenment and last sermon, happened in Bihar. Buddhism as a religion was really born in Bihar and evolved here through his preaching and the example of his lifestyle of great simplicity, renunciation and empathy for everything living. Significantly, the state's name of 'Bihar' originated from 'Vihara' meaning monasteries which abounded in Bihar. Several centuries after Buddha's passing away, the Maurya Emperor Ashoka (234-198 BC) contributed tremendously towards the revival, consolidation, and spread of the original religion. It is the monasteries, Ashoka built for the Buddhist monks and the pillars known as Ashokan Pillars erected to commemorate innumerable historical sites associated with the Buddha's life, mostly intact to this day, that helped scholars and pilgrims alike to trace the life events and preaching of a truly extraordinary man. There is a magnificent Mahabodhi temple and the Tree from the original sapling still stands in the temple premises. The temple is an architectural amalgamation of many centuries, cultures and heritages. While its architecture has a distinct stamp of the Gupta era, it has later ages inscriptions describing visits of pilgrims from Sri Lanka, Myanmar and China between 7th and 10th century AD. It is perhaps still the same temple Hieuen Tsang visited in the 7th century.

Bodhgaya blasts injure Burmese monk
A series of explosions at one of India's oldest and most prestigious Buddhist temples in eastern India has left two monks injured.
Nine blasts went off within half an hour of each other at the Mahabodhi temple in Bodhgaya, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
One of the injured was a Buddhist monk from Burma.
Dhammadharini Vihara
This video was produced in support of the Dhammadharini Vihara. Dhammadharini is most notable as the first Theravada monastery for women in the Western United States, where there are few Buddhist viharas (monasteries) for women.
A focus of Dhammadharini Foundation's mission is to support Bhikkhunis - fully ordained Buddhist nuns. Theravada represents the Thai Forest Tradition of southern Asia.
The Buddha said, Form is Emptiness / Emptiness is Form. Sound like a familiar equation?
Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya (UNESCO/NHK)
The Mahabodhi Temple Complex is one of the four holy sites related to the life of the Lord Buddha, and particularly to the attainment of Enlightenment. The first temple was built by Emperor Asoka in the 3rd century B.C., and the present temple dates from the 5th or 6th centuries. It is one of the earliest Buddhist temples built entirely in brick, still standing in India, from the late Gupta period.
