A popular area near Simon Fraser University, this park offers beautiful views of the North Shore mountains as well as downtown Vancouver. There is a small playground surrounded by grassy areas and picnic tables for summer barbecues.
There is so much to do including hiking and bike trails, viewing the Kamui Mintara (Playground of the gods), as well as a walking path to admire the Centennial Rose garden. Horizons restaurant is a great venue for special occasions and celebrations.
A short drive from the rest of the greater Vancouver area, this park is ideal for impromptu picnics or after dinner walks.

Take a look around during my mid-spring afternoon walk at Burnaby Mountain Park. This popular tourist destination in Metro Vancouver, the 366 metre-tall Burnaby Mountain (at the summit) offers awesome views of the city and the mountains as well as a sneak peek to the lower part of the Indian Arm where it connects to Burrard Inlet. The park offers visitors a network of 26 multi-use, 28-kilometre-long trails covering 576 hectares within the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area. There is no cost to visit or park your vehicle here, so enjoy many casual picnic sites, walk around the Centennial Rose Garden, take photos at the many eco-sculptures, check out the totem poles at the Playground of the Gods, or if you get hungry have a bite at the Horizons Restaurant. Younger visitors also enjoy the playground this park as to offer.

Burnaby Mountain Park is located around 30 min from Vancouver downtown right by Simon Fraser University (SFU). It has several hiking trails and a few viewpoints/lookouts where you can see Vancouver downtown and harbor.

These Totem Poles may look like First Nations Canadian totems but are in fact from the other side of the Pacific Ocean. The Ainu of Japan carved totems on the other side of the planet and the similarity in the artwork is remarkable.
Artist Nuburi Toko and his son, Shusei Toko, came to Canada to share their artwork with us as a part of international togetherness.
The Ainu Totem Poles are located on top of Burnaby Mountain in the Kushiro Park; named after Burnaby's sister city; Kushiro, Japan.
