THE BATTLE OF BANNOCKBURN 1314 - THE LION RAMPANT
'On them! On them! They fail! They fail!' Scots cry at Bannockburn, The stirring tale of a nation's fight for freedom. In a mighty attempt to crush the Scots, King Edward II placed himself at the head of the invasion of Scotland. In their desperate hour of need came Scotland's greatest medieval king, Robert, known simply as 'The Bruce'. The two forces would meet at a small stream within sight of Stirling Castle - the Bannockburn. The thunderous battle fought there would decide the fate of a nation. Featuring atmospheric reconstruction and re-enactment footage, 'The Bruce of Bannockburn' features superb depictions of the savagery of medieval battle. The ebb and flow of a crucial day in British history is illustrated by the very latest 3D graphic mapping techniques combined with dramatised eye-witness' accounts of the battle. With extensive original footage filmed in and around Stirling Castle itself, the programme provides a unique record of the most celebrated victory in Scotland's history. Narrated by Iain Cuthbertson. Featuring expert comment and analysis by Dr David Chandler, the world's most foremost military historian and former head of War Studies at Sandhurst.

Arbroath Angus Scotland
Tour Scotland video of photographs on ancestry visit to Arbroath, Angus. The history of the town began in the High Middle Ages with the founding of Arbroath Abbey in 1178. Arbroath grew considerably during the Industrial Revolution owing to the expansion of firstly the flax and secondly the jute industries and the engineering sector. A new harbour was built in 1839 and by the 20th century, Arbroath had become one of the larger fishing ports in Scotland. The town is notable as the home of the Declaration of Arbroath, as well as the Arbroath Smokie, Hospitalfield House, Signal Tower and St Vigean's Church, and, with more than 200 years as a lifeboat station, Arbroath is one of the oldest stations in Scotland. A small selection of my personal photographs shot on small group tours of Scotland.

Declaration of Arbroath Statue Arbroath Scotland
Tour Scotland video of the Declaration of Arbroath Statue on ancestry visit to Arbroath, Angus. The Declaration of Arbroath declared Scottish independence, set out to confirm Scotland's status as an independent, sovereign state and defended Scotland's right to use military action when unjustly attacked. It is in the form of a letter submitted to Pope John XXII, dated 6 April 1320. Sealed by fifty-one magnates and nobles, the letter is the sole survivor of three created at the time. The others were a letter from the King of Scots, Robert I, and a letter from four Scottish bishops which all presumably made similar points.

'Yes' campaigners for Scottish independence were dejected and angry as results for the Scottish referendum came in on Friday morning at The Radical Road pub in Edinburgh. Edinburgh rejected independence with 194,638 voting against and 123,927 in favour.
Many attendees at the invite-only event were visibly angry towards their fellow countrymen who voted to remain in the union. Despite the solemn mood, the evening wrapped up with a verse of 'Bonny Scotland, we'll support you ever more' and a short wave of the saltire banner before everyone dispersed.
With an overall turnout of 84 percent, Scotland has voted to stay in the UK. Latest figures put the 'No' side as
